The offside was given for the next phase of play as the ball is played forward to the left wing, you can see the ref look to the linesman then stop play, seems like the linesman gave THAT straight away. They wouldn't (shouldn't) have done the VAR check if the offside was before the handball. However, because they deemed it NOT handball, they didn't need to go back and check if Richarlison was offside in the initial phase, which he might have been anyway.It was handball but so what he, the Everton centre forward , was given offside. As for it being disingenuous, of course it is it doesn't fit their narrative to say anything that doesn't suggest that City get all the decisions which as we all know is nonsense.
