Only three years ago, Liverpool finished in 5th place.
They rebuilt and now they are league champions.

We finished third, on the back of a record 4 league wins in a row.
We are now rebuilding.

Elite sport. Embrace competition.
Slapped arses need not apply.

Agree, but they finished 5th two years ago (and 3 months).

Chelsea added Shevchenko and Ballack to their already best team in England back in 2006. They failed to win the title or the CL.

The season is very long and less predictable than many think. Those who are certain than Liverpool will win the title may bet their house on it. (Don't do it!)
Many teams have started slowly and won.
Many have started quickly and lost.

Liverpool are strong, but they have been beatable in all their games so far, and been a little fortunate.
Those lauding their transfer window as the window of the century are not looking at the players they have lost, and are turning a blind-eye to the performances of Wirtz, who is escaping any criticism because his team are winning - he has not played well at all. BTW, all new players should receive patient support.

It is a long season of many twists.
We, as fans, must always be behind our team, but the internet age can be a toxic place.

What bringing in these high quality established players will do is raise the game of the rest of Liverpool squad make them so full of confidence! You look at there game against Arsenal both teams energy levels speed pressing was so good and then you see our laboured predictable play and when a mid team energy levels speeds up our team look flustered poor making silly mistakes we are so far from them two teams.

In this immediate moment, yes.
Momentum shifts can be almost instantaneous though, as they have been for us when we have had poor form and turned it into long winning sequences.

Now they have Isaac, their starting 11 cost over 700 million. Will be zero mention in the media about buying the title and how bad it is for the PL etc.
As if they didn’t have enough goals in the team without him.

Whilst a lot of that may be true, when you win each game so far this season with two of them being Newcastle away and arsenal at home it’s hard to knock them. Winning matches papers over any cracks, so if they are winning it doesn’t matter if defensively they aren’t great, especially when it looks like they are adding an excellent defender too. It doesn’t matter if Writz isn’t hitting the ground running because other players are picking up the slack. It is scary that he can only get better plus adding Isak. We papered over the cracks with winning that 4th in a row. I’m glad it happened and wouldn’t change that for anything but it set us back years in doing so. Liverpools transfer window has really surprised me and I’m jealous seeing a rival buying class. Established and mostly prem proven quality. We’ve haven’t just took our foot off the gas. We’ve parked up and turned the engine off

Liverpool just knocked out the whole league, and us with it.
Isak is just the cherry on top, after they already smashed a record for Wirtz, signed Ekitiké and now Guehi from Palace is likely joining too.
Before all that, they brought in a quality left-back and Frimpong on the right.

And they’re doing it as reigning champions! You always need refreshing, always strengthening, even after success. Exactly what we failed to do when we were riding high, choosing instead to sit back and stagnate. And the result? You can see it clearly over the past year.

What an insane transfer window. I don’t even care how much money they’ve spent. We wasted crazy amounts in the past ourselves so who are us to complain?
They even managed to cash in big, including offloading that flop Núñez.

They’ve left us choking on dust. We’d better brace ourselves for a few years of red dominance.
Meanwhile we extend Dias because of his form years ago

Buying established players was what built the team that won us the league with 100 points when Pep first arrived. Players like Walker, Stones, Gundogan, Mahrez, Bernardo had either done in in the Premier League or Champions league. We don’t do our dealings like that now, instead we buy project players farm them out on loan and 9 times out of 10 sell them on as they aren’t good enough to play in the first team squad. Having 100s of players around in the youth team has been great for selling them on for profit but it hasn’t improved the first team. We are now in a situation where Arsenal and Liverpool have better groups of players than us and possibly even Chelsea.

Can almost switch off from the prem this season now, won’t even be a contest.

Just imagine how good they could actually be if they spent some money like the other clubs who they claim ruin the league.

They're behaving exactly how we should have done post the treble. They've gone out and bought players that actively improve their starting XI whilst we signed squad players and allowed the legs to literally fall off the team.

We're miles behind when you compare both teams. Both in personnel and tactically.

Watched them yesterday and the speed at which they play is frightening. Contrast that to us and we literally move the ball at a snails pace.

Spot on.

And above all that, they've now got that mentality and aura we had a few years ago. Whenever we were losing or drawing, you'd still expect us to go on to get 3 points, even if it's grinding it out.

They've got that now. Obviously they'll lose and draw games, everyone does, but they have massive belief, like we used to and that rubs off on opponents.

Teams don't fear us anymore and when a team scores against us, you expect them to get more and finish us off.

This is the worst part for me. I can take losing games because we were second best, that's sport, but now we completely shit the bed once a team goes ahead or scores one to make it level and it always feels another is coming.

Teams fancy the job against us now.

We are not close to Liverpool at the minute and unless something clicks rapidly, they'll be out of sight for us before the season has really got going.

They've been buying well for a few years now. They knew the likes of Henderson wasn't going to cut it in a title winning midfield in the Premier League anymore any let players like that go. If it was us, he would still be our player and featuring.

they've been far more savvy than us for a couple of years now.

I disagree, largely.
I think we are very keen to laud rivals and demean ourselves in this moment. If we were signing Guehi, before now, many here would be very underwhelmed. Because Liverpool are buying him he is suddenly elevated to something he isn't.

Results change everything and you make the point well - Wirtz performances are being ignored because the team is winning. Our player performances are being picked apart because we are not. Even the Oscar Bobb thread was toxic yesterday - two games ago it was the opposite. Players do not change in two games, only results do.

We have made mistakes and only a fool would think that we have not. In twelve years, we have made few, and Viana has acted quickly and decisively. I hope that time will prove him correct. I am certainly confident that we have bought huge potential but it is also true that we are replacing all time greats with those who have the potential to be so. That will take time to bear fruit - fact - so we need to baton the hatches until that point. The timing is the key here. When these former greats came into the club, our expectations were lower. We allowed them to develop and we were not so quick to condemn. They became world-class but because we now have a record of continuous winning, we are not keen to offer the same patience to new players as before. I also note that those who were the most keen to condemn the performances of players like Mahrez and Sterling are now the ones most likely to condemn those replacing them as never will be good enoughs. Like life, some people are negative and others not. Some people here continually pick at certain players and the same people continually like those posts. Others are the opposite, and their posts are generally liked by another group of people.

Regardless of the kind of person you are, the facts are this: we are not the same team as we were; we are in the midst of a transition; we have a new DOF, new coaches, and new players; WE ALL WANT THE TEAM TO DO WELL; it will take time for all of the new players and coaches to learn to play together to the optimum level; until that point and beyond it, fans need to be patient and support the team.

And I disagree even more. We were linked to Guehi quite recently and I wanted him. After seeing our defence and the lad play for Palace and England, he was who I wanted if we went into the market for a centre half. The fact the best side in the league will now buy him again shows his quality.

Correct, if Liverpool dropped points and wasn't playing well Writz would be getting pelters, but he isn't because he is finding his feet in a new league, in a new team that is winning each week. Again you are correct, we have bought potential which fingers crossed pulls through but going through a rebuild, with our quality reliable players ageing or have left, potential doesn't resolve the here and now issues. We needed players to hit the ground running in Jan, only one gets consistent minutes. We then needed major signings in the summer, we only bought one prem proven player and the others are a risk and hoping their potential comes through. I do support the team, the over ten hours of travel was ok support yesterday from myself I would say. What isn't acceptable is the slow shite play. We can lose, we are going to lose many games this season. Lets do it by giving the fans something to shout about and be excited about for the future though ey.

Fantastic, well thought out post.

I wish more on here posted as reasonably as this.

Some Bluemooners are becoming very raggy in their attitudes.

Guehi is decent. I can guarantee though that most people would be very underwhelmed with his signing at almost any point in our recent history.

The players we have bought are exciting players and it is obvious that we are trying to tweak the style of play. You will simply have to be patient.
