Living Near Manchester Airport

I live a few miles from the airport, and as many have said, you get used to it.

A few years ago, a pal of mine, who had been interested in planes all his life, bought a house on Ringway Road, and it had a landing light in his back garden!

You would have thought it would have been as noisy as hell, but the airport had put so much sound proofing in his house, you couldn't hear a thing.

He sold his house as his intended refused to live there, she was scared of a plane crashing on the house, but it was quite odd, sitting in his kitchen, watching huge planes passing a few feet overhead, and not hearing anything.

Live pretty close n love it, thought the novelty would wear off but it hasnt, its nice just to see them flying overhead when yer out drinkin, shopping or whatever, also good to have the airport pub, The romper n the aviation viewing park nearby amongst other delights (-;

Best thing is the look on the taxi drivers faces when theyve been waiting for a large fair for ages at arrivals n you say 'Gatley, Heald Green etc' £5-£7 lol.

Thread reminds me the A380 makes it first landing tomorrow 12.30 n i'll miss it.

I've lived in Cheadle Hulme for the past two years , and i'm on the flightpath into Manchester airport , and the planes drive me mad .......... they claim that you get used to the noise , which is often deafening at all hours , but it's certainly not ideal ......... that's for sure.

I work in an office block at the top of the A6 just passed stockport college and from where I sit next to the window I can see them coming in all day long. does anyone know when the A380 is coming in tmoz?? I want to see what the fuss is about???

They are predicting 15k people to be at the airport to watch it come in.

Hope they're not disappointed. I see it on approach to Heathrow most days and it's roughly the same wingspan and length as a 747 (slightly longer wingspan but a bit shorter than a Jumbo) but it obviously has a huge fuselage. That's the only significant difference really.

Its wingspan looks fairly small compared to the fuselage,
I was at Hawarden last year for the family day when it did a low fly by, proper huge and amazed by how quiet it was.

12.25 tomorrow, and departing at 15.30

Deffo mate, you`ll notice the last few houses missing from the row on Shadowmoss, they were hit by a plane many years ago but don`t let that put you off.

On the 14th of March 1957, a B.E.A. Viscount from Amsterdam fractured a wing-flap on its final approach. It plunged into some council houses on Shadow Moss Road, near the primary school, killing 20 passengers and two people on the ground.

Both dead and injured were taken to Shadow Moss School. Captain Breheny and his co-pilot, Douglas Palin, were killed. The captain had been with B.E.A. since its beginnings.

Thanks a lot mate, as a cab driver at the airport I am happy that you find it funny. You may not want to know that the average wait is anything from 2 to 3 hours, perhaps it is understandable then that the driver's face is not wearing a beaming smile.
Next time you come through let your driver know how funny you find it and share the joke with him, and perhaps you can give him the £ 1.60 that the airport charge for the privelege of transporting decent people as well as the cretins.
