Live pretty close n love it, thought the novelty would wear off but it hasnt, its nice just to see them flying overhead when yer out drinkin, shopping or whatever, also good to have the airport pub, The romper n the aviation viewing park nearby amongst other delights (-;

Best thing is the look on the taxi drivers faces when theyve been waiting for a large fair for ages at arrivals n you say 'Gatley, Heald Green etc' £5-£7 lol.

Thread reminds me the A380 makes it first landing tomorrow 12.30 n i'll miss it.
Thanks a lot mate, as a cab driver at the airport I am happy that you find it funny. You may not want to know that the average wait is anything from 2 to 3 hours, perhaps it is understandable then that the driver's face is not wearing a beaming smile.
Next time you come through let your driver know how funny you find it and share the joke with him, and perhaps you can give him the £ 1.60 that the airport charge for the privelege of transporting decent people as well as the cretins.
Hackney or private hire? I think he was alluding to private hire. I, for one, felt sorry for my cabbie when we got home from Lanzarote to find he had been driving arond Gatwick for an hour due to a slight delay

tueartsboots,
If it had been PH they have to prebooked so probably know their destination beforehand.
Either way, why laugh? Obviously I can only talk for black cabs but we are all self employed working class lads like most people in this country we are just trying to keep our heads above water.
According to the airport the average cost of a cab ride is only £14 pounds, all the more reason not to gloat IMO.

Sorry Silverback, my post did come across as inconsiderate on reflection, Most cab drivers ive experienced are decent working class lads who I generally have a good chat n a laugh with, I was probably looking back at the amount o times ive jumped in a BC at arrivals n the attitude or comments made by im sure a minority of drivers has seriously peed me off just because im not travelling a long distance.

Great Boozer and has what must be the best beer garden in England.

Can't beat a sunny Sunday afternoon sat in there with a couple of cold beers...

You're providing a service.

It the guy lives close and wants to pay for a taxi, you've no right to demand a £20+ fare.

If it's that shit waiting there, why not do a different route?

Do you have to pay a charge to rank up at the airport? and if so what makes it more worthwile than say a town or city centre rank.
I used to to abit of PH and some of the snarls you would get from the BC's because they thought we were flagging.
Also I could never get my head round buying the plate, PH is say £5k car plus your checks, badge etc and your away to pay your subs at a firm and earn, BC is what £40k+ for a plate, why? What makes it so lucrative that you would pay that out.

So, no beaming smile from you because you don't have a big fare!

Nothing new in that, is there?

Maybe you should be at the airport on Saturday evening when there are huge ques of people wanting to go home, but you are ripping the piss out of people in Manchester because they have had a drink!

Don't give me the hard done by working bloke routine, you had it too good for too many years, and ripped your fellow working people off for so long, the airport came in and stated your fares as they were sick and tired of the complaints about the shit service and bad attitude.

Not much has changed, has it?
