No they won't. They can do whatever they like, another two years before they have to go to the polls. Install the 'dream team', Rishi and Penny and brass it out. Hope it comes good in two years. They don't give flying f..k about 'optics' at the moment. You can't have two leadership elections to replace 2 disgraced PM's in 3 months.
Just think about the optics of selecting someone you rejected in September.
They will have to call an election.
If they do that, one would have to wonder about the future of party ‘democracy‘ in the U.K. Both main parliamentary parties seem to have become disconnected from their respective memberships in recent years. Perhaps not a discussion for now but one to ponder if they do oust Truss. No they won't. They can do whatever they like, another two years before they have to go to the polls. Who knows and interestingly the Torygraph had a article on there being a potential Michael Howard style coronation this morning with Maudent as PM and Sunak as her sidekick. Either way Truss is finished, even if she completely caves in and stumbles on her party is ungovernable. You will have Gove on side pulling the string Reese Mogg on the other pulling the other way and anyone who else who gets a band together. That's as may be, but sadly she's not actually resigned.
I'm not slow in coming forward with an opinion, but I'm genuinely flummoxed as to how this is going to end.

we just wall up both ends of Downing Street and leave anyone in there - elect a new Govt - install a PM in a new property and in about 5 years just go back and bulldoze the buildings and the remains inside then plough into the ground
Tens of thousands of Tory members did! They are the only ones and it should be them upon whom the opprobrium of the general electorate falls, and crushes.
On the subject of JRM, he comes across with every syllable he utters, that he is the 21st century equivalent of a Victorian mill owner, and I'm not talking Titus Salt material, or Robert Owen, or he is the owner of a Caribbean sugar plantation, or a District Commissioner in the Raj. There must be some truly woeful people in North Somerset who can return such a specimen to Westminster. His 'best and warmest' characteristic is the total indifference he shows to most things and most people.
They really don't.
They're facing political annihilation if they go to the polls, they're in turkeys and Christmas country now.
The last bit reminded me of Fred and Rose.
