Liz Truss

Can all the economic experts on here please tell me what should be done. All I am reading is what shouldn't be done and what a car crash it is. What would be the right calls to have made.

If they want to give everyone a tax cut but want to grow the economy with a cheap pound. Make it easier to export, leaving the biggest trading block on the planet with businesses facing a shit load of red tape to get goods out of the country wasn’t a good idea in hindsight.

It was never a good idea at any stage tbf.

if leaving was such a bad idea then why wont Labour use re joining as a election winner? with the mess the tories are making of the country at present then a pledge to rejoin will 100% be a election winner

Because they aren't brave enough and rejpoining would be a long process. Doesn't mean leaving wasn't a stupid idea, badly implemented. We could also have left without the shit version of brexit we ended up with.

Why take the chance on potentially pissing off some of the electorate, when the Tory party are doing such a good job for them.

Think they could just sit back and watch the current shit show implode and it’s an election winner to be fair

It’s the elephant in the room no one wants to address. Brexit has been a shit show, the Tory’s won’t talk about it and Starmer avoids it because he knows he will be losing a lot of voters who voted leave in 2016 at the next election. It’s been a fucking disaster.

Maybe they are hoping that once they have the reins, they can move to joining the single market and customs union.
Yet another referendum ;)

Windfall tax to pay for the help with energy bills for starters. Another really good idea would be putting public sector contracts out to actual proper tender as opposed to wasting billions giving out lucrative contracts to public services companies who take the piss.

Why do you think the tories are failing to deal with the asylum seekers? Because they know it fires up a large number of people (who dont really understand it) in traditional Labour seats . They know that by keeping it front and centre as an issue (that they have created) then a return to the Eu (who they blame for not stopping the forriners) will never be considered.

The Tories are tapping into the UKs xenophobia.

She thought she would get an easy ride today, avoiding the tv interviews , she got savaged , bravo local radio hosts !

She is not a politician and has zero ability to debate. She just keeps repeating the same line over and over again. How the fuck has she got to local council level never mind the highest office in the land? Jackie Weaver is a bigger political big beast than her.

I'm no expert but... before the Queen died the focus was on getting us through the winter. They then had a 2 week hiatus to decide how to do it as the announcement was made on the day she died. The priority didn't change, in that the key policy needed to stop people dying over the coming winter either by not being able to heat their homes or by not being able to eat. They could have said last Friday, making sure the latter doesn't happen is key, but it is our intention to come back in 3/6 months with more information on how we will grow the economy in the long run. I think most people would have accepted that, knowing that support for the winter was there and they were actually taking some time to develop a sustainable policy for growth. Instead we have the present shitshow, ath t they will almost certainly have to roll back on part of it.

No matter how bad a decision it was to leave and how much that decision has cost us as a nation, trying to negotiate re entry to the EU would cost us more billions. Add to that the cost to the nation with the war between Russia and Ukraine and the effects of Covid and we find ourselves in this economic shitshow thanks to Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Nigel Farage. Then Liz Truss and this fucking dumb fuck Kwasi Kwarteng.

They should include their own increase in vat receipts for energy as windfall then.

i particularly listened with dismay to her squirming and squirrelling around the question on fracking. Everything I’ve read suggests it’s a long game for the frackers with unknown risks results and benefits that are unlikely to lessen energy bills in the UK but will put money in gvmt coffers that they can waste on projects like refurbishing the Houses of Parliament which could cost the tax payer c£22b.
Local consent presumably means bribing local communities or individuals in the community. Should individuals consent I would imagine saying yes will invalidate home and personal insurance cover.
Its yet more fag packet economics with sound bites.
Why not have a thoughtful plan with rationale and cost benefits. The sort of thing you, me and millions of others put together before we even take on a project like a home improvement.
Ive bought in extra popcorn supplies for the conference next week.

The fracking is an issue down my way ish , nobody is giving their consent so she wont get it going , very naive of her to go down the consent route , or she is lying and will just do it anyway
