Local Elections 2023

Good point made there . The Tories have totally lost their way and fielding an unelected leader with no mandate pushing racist far right rhetoric day in day out even the most die hard conservative voter has had enough .

That's not strictly true.

the die hards are all they have left.

Our voting system is bollocks really. I live in tameside, and it's a staunch labour seat, always has been. Now I don't mind that cos I vote labour, well I would if I could be arsed, but there is absolutely no point, especially if I wanted to vote for a different party.
Our entire governing system is based on a few thousand people that live in swing constituencies.
Last time I voted was Brexit, cos my vote meant something.
No suprise there is so much apathy.

UKIP, BNP. NF types will still vote Tory while complaining that Sunak is too left and 'socialist'. A few dinosaurs vote for Reform hoping to get a 'real Brexit'. You know, the one that makes us all rich, but somehow eluded May, Johnson and the present incumbents because they haven't got a magic wand between them.

Meanwhile, many proper Tories sit on their hands or have defected to the Lib Dems.

In 1977, I went to work in Stockport. They were not just a Tory Council. The Tories were so embedded that it was inconceivable that anyone else could ever be in charge.

Now there is not a single Tory councillor in all of Stockport. Not one. Even places like Bramhall have gone Lib-Dem. And it doesn't get much richer, or more naturally Tory than Bramhall.

The Tories may not realise it, but they have gone a long way down the wrong path. A long, long way.

Imagine Manchester with no Labour councillors - that would be the equivalent change.

16% turnout where I live ..says everything for British politics . It’s a vote in it’s self
I find this really sad . People are just giving up and there’ll take anything that’s served them.
this sums it up
Labour shouldn’t get too excited when hardly anyone bothered to vote.
I mean being honest labour will walk the next election either way, but not because anyone actually wants labour in, it’s more like get the Tory’s out
There has to be an alternative to what we are presented with at present
