People may think I’m overly optimistic but I think in 30 years time our political landscape is going to look radically different. I’m sure people thought the Whigs would be around forever too.

I’ve mentioned on this forum before that the Tories are currently the architects of their own potential future extinction. They are losing voters in younger age brackets at an unprecedented rate. And those voters are no longer becoming more Conservative with age as they no longer accrue wealth, home ownership and status as people have in years gone by. The Tories have cut them adrift and continue to make no attempt to win them back.

With time I think the Tories will cease to exist in their current form. Maybe they reinvent themselves… but I can’t see it. There will come a time soon where they have no chance in government. If that’s the case all the other parties are pro-PR and will jump on the opportunity to implement it. I would bet money we’ll have PR by 2050.

I agree but the country can't afford to wait till 2050. The UK decline (especially relative to other developed countries) of living standards is not slowing down. Infrastructure (North of Watford) is a disgrace. This didn't happen by accident. The whole political system and media is fixated on the past. Can't wait for the Coronation. It is just another deflection tactic from the grim reality. If you don't modernise and change then you decline.

They did reinvent themselves for a while, or the stroppy ones did. It was called UKIP. This internal drama manifested itself in what became the referendum. And now we have Brexit. And now we have to live with it

True and I accepted the result of that particular version of PR.

Some only accept results that go their way, such is life. Maybe we will have another stab at both one day.

That is beyond pathetic really but not surprising. My wife voted but I didn't. Only 3 candidates a Tory who won(shit) Labour(not voting for that lot) and an independent with less social media coverage than a technophobe from a lost amazon tribe.

Spoil your ballot. It counts for more than just not turning up.

My ward had a turnout of 30% which is mediocre but the ward next door got about 50%. Turnout this year seems to be up in some places and down in others. Pretty random and largely based on local sentiment.
