Local Elections 2023

Our voting system is bollocks really. I live in tameside, and it's a staunch labour seat, always has been. Now I don't mind that cos I vote labour, well I would if I could be arsed, but there is absolutely no point, especially if I wanted to vote for a different party.
Our entire governing system is based on a few thousand people that live in swing constituencies.
Last time I voted was Brexit, cos my vote meant something.
No suprise there is so much apathy.
Not being funny but when you say your brexit vote meant something….that’s the only time we have really had a say on something (I.e in or out) and they then spent what 3/4 years plus trying to stop it from happening.
Whether it was a Good or bad decision isn’t really the point, the point is they don’t care about what the people want
They are all the same to me.

Ye fair point.

Democracy doesn't work, for a long list of reasons. Our particular form of alleged democracy is a particularly egregious version that not only does not work but is actively damaging to the public good.

The challenge is to find an alternative that isn't a form of tyranny and which works for the benefit of the people as a whole. And no, I have no idea what that could be. That is the great problem.

While in another thread someone wants politicians to agree together and do the right thing, so that would be stopping Brexit - at least long enough to give the people chance to realise their mistake and vote to do the right thing.

Or to put it another way, are Rees-Mogg and Corbyn the same? Cooper and Braverman?

Allthesamery is just lazy.

Now it's becoming Whatsthepointery.

Well, it would have to be a form of proportional representation - maybe a benevolent dictator could decide which system to adopt.

Be interesting couple of months in politics between now and the summer recess.
Can the Tories risk going into a general election with Sunak as party leader, or can they risk yet another round of blood letting and internal civil war with yet another leadership campaign with a year to 18 moths from the election.
I have read today a Tory member who was calling Sunak a SOCIALIST and a significant amount of their members won't have forgiven him for his role in removing that clown Bozo from office (despite his ever lowering rating), and a lot of the members wouldn't accept him because off his Indian heritage.
