Local Elections | Thu 7 May 26

The silence from much of our media is appalling.
If this were Angela Rayner, they would be utterly relentless in their pursuit.

If the CPS don’t prosecute, then there will be a private prosecution against Farage. If there is enough for a boxer’s punch at a conviction it would be absolutely fucking nailed on.

Then it will get interesting…

Location of the trial would be a massive issue. For both parties.

You are much more likely to be acquitted of assault at Stoke on Trent than any other court in the country. Really hard to get an assault conviction home in Stoke. Location of trial can be a game changer.

If I was prosecuting I’d be thinking hard about that.

I've got to work in Stoke tomorrow in Hanley, always a pleasure!

Much of the media haven't been silent, that's just not true, you can't really have a dig at a dishonest tosser like Farage then misrepresent whats going on yourself. You think no one on here reads or watches the news? A couple of right wing papers and GB news is not 'much of the media'
I take your point, and there was no intention to mislead, but I am angry that portions of our media have given this scant focus and others have ignored it, just as they have with Tice's tax avoidance. It should feature right across the media without exceptions. Some behaviours transcend, and a 5m 'gift' is exactly that.

Similarly, Wes Streeting's funding by private health should be made common knowledge, as should all those MPs driving the case of antisemitism who take substantial funds from the Friends of Israel movement yet say nothing about the Islamophobia written through our politics and fertilised by our press.
We must drive through impartiality and transparency as tenets of our democracy.

The age of bribery needs to be driven out of our politics by a media pushing for the country's best interests. By that, I mean the drivers that will improve life for the majority of residents in all communities

I agree with all that mate, corruption is just met with a shrug nowadays, political scandals used to end careers.

Do as I say, not as I do...

"Daily Mail published an article with the headline, "Fury as Green councillor proudly posts footage of himself driving a gas-guzzling Lamborghini days after his election," but in the third paragraph it says, "the film appears to have been taken during a wedding in 2023."

Their lead avoided Council Tax whilst whilst slumming it on a houseboat. (Yet expects the rest of us to pay a higher amount of it).

My point stands, "Do as I say, not as I do".

Absolutely, and you will see my outing of Wes Streeting as well as Farage in this very thread.
Avoiding council tax - not on! It's not a £5m gift, but it still isn't right.

Nevertheless, the tweet you reposted was misleading: the guy hired a Lambo for a wedding - standard practice in Bolton - and not for what was inferred as a visit to the council chambers.

Out of interest, did you vote in your local council elections based on something happening in a foreign country?
Is the NHS in a foreign country , because this Foreign company that specializes in blowing up hospitals and murdering health workers, has a £330 million deal, of which it has spent £220 million, with it`s only saving being, sending vulnerable patients home at weekends, instead of keeping them in. A deal with the police force where information about British citizens are shared with multiple foreign intelligence agencies, which includes everyone that took part in Palestine marches.

No foreign country has ever told us what we can or cannot do in our own country ,
The British government has arrested 3000 peace activist citizens, on the grounds of terrorism, the British anti terrorism force claimed at the same time as Cooper named them terrorist, that they had no evidence of this, Cooper also claimed that she could not give evidence as it could harm the safety of the informants. You can ignore all the facts, but Blair sold the economy to America years ago, hence Starmer saying the peado king of America could not use our bases on a Friday, to you can use only for defence on Saturday, to you can do what you want on Sunday.

From Reforms wins.

6 have now stepped down after racist social media posts were discovered.

5 have quit because they thought the position was paid.

2 have turned out to have died before getting elected.

1 quit because he though he was running to be an MP.

1 didn’t exist at all.

1 turned out to be a foreign national without a work visa.

One week in and 16 gone already.
Local authority councillors are paid. Usually a minimum £10k pa for a small council (for an average 20 hours a week minimum) plus extra responsibility allowances (cabinet members etc)

Ah Hanley - the city centre of Stoke as opposed to the town of Stoke. Turned left for Stoke and turn right for Stoke (City Centre)!
I’m not sure that’s correct. Stoke City Council are based at Stoke town hall. I think a town hall has to be in the vicinity of the centre of things, if not at the epicentre. Stockport is on the periphery, I guess, but overall town halls are pretty much in the mix of things.

Hanley is where the shopping and hospitality is located, but not sure that makes it the City Centre.
