local youth products

Is this the Pozo lad?

Yeah that is him, captain of Real's youth side and supposed to be their best young striker. We're only paying £100k for him and didn't even have to pay that because of Spanish laws, it's being paid to maintain good relations with Real. Apparently he may go straight into our U18 and/or EDS/reserves side despite only being 15.

It's very alarming actually. How can an area the size of Greater Manchester produce so few talented youngsters? surely there are kids out there who have the ability. Is the system that bad? makes me wonder how many local kids will actually be invited to the new academy over the next 10 years.

Micheal Johnson and Nedum aside who was the last local lad to break through? Because obviously Barton, Richards, Ireland etc aren't.

Has Manchester stopped producing good local talent?

Ishmael Miller had a mini breakthrough but can't really think of anyone else in the last decade plus.

Think Hiwula is from around here and is doing well for the reserves, was Devante Cole born in Manchester because his dad played for the scum around the time he was born?

There must be plenty of talent, it's just finding and training them. Ravel Morrison at the scum is a great talent but is a criminal/woman beater/wanabee gangster so might turn out a nobody.

There was a feature on the official website about the kids that had made it to the first team. The numbers looked good but when you actually took a closer look some of these made just 1 or 2 appearances for the first team. The question is: has our academy failed to deliver over the past 10-15 years?

yes, mosty players like onuoho didnt even get that much game time, apart from richards no one has even come close to being in the team right now- mainly becasue their not given a chance- players like assulin, suarez, even razak have barely played , the offical site video was stupid, it didnt reflect the fact that most of them only played for about two games

not one mancunian in the team !!

Not really considering how few resources we had, we have produced a lot of average players though. But we've also produced a lot of Premier League quality players like SWP, Micah, Barton, Sturridge, M. Johnson (pre-injury and he may be again some day), Ireland, Etuhu, Mears, and lately Weiss, Boyata, Razak (if he can be counted), and Guidetti (all four are good enough for PL IMO).

perhaps they are, but none of them ever get played in the first team players, like sturridge and barton were along time ago they may have played a part in the club, but none are here now and no youth team products will get into the first team for a long time unless their given a chance

swp was bought as was boyata, weiss, razak and boyata I think, ireland, mears, etuhu are not exactly great and mj never plays anyway

We got SWP from Forest. I think Weis and Boyata were brought in as well.

Well most kids start somewhere else I think... but if they spend major development years at the club they can really claim them as academy graduates. SWP had been released by Forest too so we took a chance on him.
