We got SWP from Forest. I think Weis and Boyata were brought in as well.

Well most kids start somewhere else I think... but if they spend major development years at the club they can really claim them as academy graduates. SWP had been released by Forest too so we took a chance on him.

Fair point.

There was a feature on the official website about the kids that had made it to the first team. The numbers looked good but when you actually took a closer look some of these made just 1 or 2 appearances for the first team. The question is: has our academy failed to deliver over the past 10-15 years?

yes, mosty players like onuoho didnt even get that much game time, apart from richards no one has even come close to being in the team right now- mainly becasue their not given a chance- players like assulin, suarez, even razak have barely played , the offical site video was stupid, it didnt reflect the fact that most of them only played for about two games

not one mancunian in the team !!

How many genuinely top-class Mancunian players are there at the minute, or how many have there been over the past ten years or so? I think you'll find the answer is very few.

Don't worry, we'll have my little un starting in 14 years time (now 4)

*sits back in chair and daydreams further*

My 6 year old nephew plays for city under 7's. He can't play until he hits 7 but trains at Platt Lane every week with the team

Trippier is a Mancunian who looks like he has a good future too, he's been one of the best right-backs in the Championship on loan at Burnley this season. Probably won't stay with us but wouldn't be surprised if Premier League clubs go for him. Ben Mee is also doing alright there, Burnley are in good form.

Quick look at the EDS profiles on the OS reveal quite a few local lads:

Tom Halsall - Sale
Chris Chantler - Cheadle Hume
Courtney Meppen Walter - Bury
Ellis Plummer - Audenshaw
Kieran Kennedy - Manchester
Luke Coulson - St Helens
Sean Tse - Salford
Thomas Smith - Warrington
Bradley Robinson - Manchester
George evans - Cheadle
Paul Clowes - Sale
Devantee Cole - Alderly Edge
Harry Bunn - Oldham

How many of them that will make first team appearances for us remains to be seen, however.

it would be great having a city supporter as a first team player. Just like Kevin Grosskreutz for Dortmund.

Meppen Walter is from Heywood he lives on my mates street

With most of them it's anyone's guess really, some of them like Bunn, Meppen-Walter, and Kennedy are really highly rated by the club but it's so hard now and we aren't even getting the "easy" FA Cup 3rd round match this year to give any of them a prayer.

Chantler has already had one of those obligatory (or dare I say it, masturbatory, to notch up the "academy players who played for the first team" count) first team appearances on his 20th birthday against Juventus. He's 21 now and on loan at Carlisle, he'll be released or sold in the next year.

Tse is nearly 21 as well and won't even get one of those "feel good" first team appearances because of how strong our squad is now.

Our current academy would be of great benefit to us if we were still rubbish and poor, a lot of players like Trippier would be in the first-team squad, but as it is the club needs to raise the standard of facilities and player and that is happening already. It will benefit Mancunian boys in the coming years too, not just foreigners we sign.

Personally im not bothered if they come through or not, if their good enough they will stand out and maybe get a chance. I just want the best players for Manchester City.... Having seen the EDS/youth team at various times over these last 12 months there is not one you could trust to put in your team in a Prem game. The best player to come through last couple of years is Trippier and his development is hindered by the fact that at least three players are above him in the pecking order for right back, so he is building his reputation at Championship level and good luck to the kid. Suarez is the most gifted of the EDS players and has had a run out in certain first team games but to me he has bad habits, he gets his pocket picked to easy, he dosent protect the ball enough when he has it, he can be greedy, he has tremendous ability but can Bobby trust him?
