Loons on motorbikes

I don't really know the legalities of when you need insurance, helmets etc on electric bikes. I *think* it's if they have pedals and can't be powered by the motor only they count as an e-bike but if it works like a motorbike without pedals then it's classed as a motorbike?

I'm a cyclist so I know a bit about bicycles and the law but know fuck all about e-bikes...

Just proper hate these try-hard chav twats.
E-bikes that are pedal assisted - yer have to pedal or yer get no juice - are legal, no insurance required, as long as they are limited to 15mph. Some people buy an electric bike and fiddle with the motor so that it can exceed the legal limit and they don't need to pedal. Ive seen a good few of these whilst out legally cycling my e-bike. It's a Europe-wide thing although I understand the Dutch are or have considered allowing an increase on certain cycle routes. Mopeds can occasionally use Dutch cycle paths but the ones I've encountered are very circumspect and recognise that the bike is king on a cycle path. Mind, a bike is a king on Dutch roads where the path is part of the road.

The councils should have automatic rumble strips on cycle lanes where speeds over the 15mph allowance are detected. That’d slow them down a bit.

Local and national governments for the most past can't be arsed investing in basic cycling infrastructure to begin with.

Look at Stretford / Chorlton. They literally put some cones out and called it a cycle lane.

Have you been to Chorlton recently? Downtown Damascus has a better road network, all due to the new cycle lanes taking years to complete.

Yep, at the moment it's a proper cluster fuck to navigate through whether via car, foot or bike!

Maybe it'll be worth it *in the end * but like every bit of urban design in this country it'll almost certainly be half arsed, badly thought out, and take three times as long and three times as much to complete.

If the likes of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and many other modern western nations can sort out their urban planning there's no reason we can't.

Most of these young men being pricks is a consequence of insufficient funding and attention on youth development in sports, arts and education. All governments should be hugely invested in every single child imo. There should be much more energy put into ensuring that the next generation have genuine interests and life skills. Not just those at elite level.

If I ran things (God forbid), I'd borrow up the wazzoo to have an army of people working with future parents, new parents, kids and teenagers so that they grow up caring about the society that they will create.

By assuming that parents can do it alone we are always chasing our tails because a few fail (and in many cases it is completely understandable in their circumstances).

Look how City was transformed by Mansour. Money can do a lot of good if invested wisely. Our politicians are like the Glazers though. (This is England we are talking about. England. etc etc Too proud of history to recognise or address the current failures right in front of your face.)

Yes, as a 17 yr old I had a Honda CB250 on L plates. Straight to that from a Puch VZ50 moped. Came off it once turning right, down hill on a wet road. First and last time. Arranged a load of driving lessons and moved to a car.
Takes me back that I remember loads of Gorton lads having them at school in the late 70's....them or Honda SS50's motorbike /moped with pedals. And them mental monkey bikes

We live in a confused and overcomplicated country.
We have 'pie in the sky' projects which may or may not come to fruition. (eg Crossrail)
We have projects cancelled midway through their construction. (eg HS2)
Public transport which is run for the benefit of the operators rather than the population it should serve.(You can hazard a guess as to who those operators are!)
Building projects which are incongruous regarding the areas in which they are being put. (Piccadilly Gardens is one victim of this. It isn't and never will be Manhattan.)
We need proper leaders in this country to give us a plan to follow, the authority to implement it and collaboration to ensure that it is carried out efficiently.

I saw the leader of Manchester City council on telly the other day....never seen or heard her before.

Like Andy Burnham she clearly isn't from Manchester....I may be mistaken. She sounds like Blackburn or Burnley?

edit: she's from Belfast. Weird accent though.
