Worst thing you can do is stay mates. Especially when it's in the hope that eventually it will develop into something more. You'll be crushed if/when she gets with somebody else. Cut off all ties and keep yourself busy, you'll probably feel like shit for a good while but just keep yourself focused on other things in your life and maybe try something new/meet new people and eventually you'll be back to your normal self.
