Lost my mum today.

Thanks mate, I had no idea. She never mentioned it. Only going through her stuff revealed it.
When I was doing the same we found two bibles from the mid 1850's, they must have been handed down. We donated them to 2 local churches, they were valued at around £500 each but my Mum and Dad wouldn't have wanted us to make money from them.

It's very distressing dispersing your parents belongings, shedding tears is almost impossible not to do.

That was a lovely thing to do, and they will be looked after and treasured by the churches. I'm not at all religious but I think you did the right thing there.
To be honest I've found going through my mum's stuff to be therapeutic in some ways. I've discovered pictures I've never seen before of my mum and dad.
They are smiling in pretty much every one, that tells me they were happy, a great comfort.
