Lost my music appetite

I’ve been an avid music listener aged 63 mainly liking punk , 70s prog-rock, indie and a bit of everything except country.
I have have some superb music players of numerous guises coupled to high end headphones and in ear monitors.
However, I have suddenly hit a road block, nothing excites me musically at the moment.
I can only listen to so much Floyd, Purple, Sabbath etc along with Steve Wilson. Pistols, Steve Mason et al. Suggestions please to get my music mojo back please.Any new bands that meet the criteria ?

These lads have a new album out today and it’s awesome.

@malkie give these classics a listen:

REM - Murmur
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
The Strokes - Is This It
Echo & the Bunnymen - Crocodiles
Guns ‘N Roses - Appetite for Destruction
New Order - Substance (1987)
Pearl Jam - Ten
The Pretenders - The Pretenders
The Replacements - “Let it Be”

Something here will click...

I’m only in my 40’s and went to the iTunes Store the other day to see if there was some new music I would like.

There wasn’t.

Was sort of depressing.

Used to love my rock...grew up with Purple etc the last tight band was Guns n Roses when they were fresh.

These days I find myself back in hippy roots & regularly have Crosby Stilles & Nash playing in my car, proper harmonies & 100 X better than talkragshite.

The older you get the bigger your back catalogue. I'm only 55 but have similar tastes to the OP covering a very broad base. Still I go through phases of not knowing what to listen to. I find classical music a good counterpoint but also buy uncut or similar each month and something new usually suggests itself from the reviews that I can then listen to on spotify. It feels to me though that you can't have a proper relationship to music unless you "own" it in some way.

Currently in my car I've just got the hifi set to play every track on my USB in alphabetical order rather than listen to one artist or album. Throws up quite a few tracks I forgot I had and I haven't got bored yet, just coming to the end of the cs. Made the recent trip to Wembley more interesting apart from my son moaning about my taste. He got an hour to stream some of his kanye west and what have you. I've not admitted to him that I found some of that alright.

Current listens for me Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever and Aldous Harding.

You don't have to keep listening to new bands, despite how much the world says you have to.

But I'll give it a go. You mentioning Pink Floyd and Steven Wilson makes me think you'd be a fan of prog and psychedelic rock, so maybe you'd be into bits and pieces of Tame Impala, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and The Mars Volta (though The Mars Volta are more of an arty punk band with prog influences). I also think you'd be into acts like Joanna Newsom, Richard Dawson, and Timber Timbre.

There aren't many "classic rock" bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple around at the moment (times move on) but I guess Queens of the Stone Age are about the closest you'll get stylistically in terms of popular 21st century bands. There's a Swedish group called Ghost who might tickle your fancy as well, and Pallbearer might have something for you.

Another thing I would suggest is going back to bands you might have missed from the 60s and 70s that could turn you on to more modern interpretations of old sounds. Whoever knew that Big Star would end up influencing songs like this, or songs like this? You see what I mean. Good luck on your journey!

Have to second King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Had the same reaction that 7evens did when I read what bands you like. They're prolific and have produced an number of different concept albums focusing on genres, even putting out 5 albums in one year. One of my favourites is Flying Microtonal Banana. Don't let the goofy name fool you though, it's a really experimental album drawing on Anatolian microtonal playing styles. It's well worth a listen. The following song being a highlight.
