Lou Reed Dead

Absolutely astonished he made it to 71.

I remember a mates older Brother raving about Lou and the Velvets when I was around 14 and I thought "what the fuck is this !".

A few months later my life changed with The Clash, The Damned, Weller, The Ramones etc and suddenly it all made sense.

RIP Lou.

lou reed a vastly underrated song writer , he didnt sell billions of records , but he did make a statement , i was pissed off after the chelsea game , but hearing of lou reeds death brings some perspective , end of an era , magic and loss.

I was 13 and I got into an argument, one Friday, about music with another lad at school. He kept banging on about David Bowie (whom I had heard of) and some Lou Reed character (who?).
I remember walking to the record shop, the next day and finding two albums with his name on. I was none the wiser.
It took me three weeks (seriously kids!) to have enough money to buy Tranformer. I bought it on the blind. Solely because your man was still so adamant and I, obviously, wouldn't acknowledge my ignorance.
Christ, how good was it? I mean how good?
(Berlin was the other album and, fuck me, that took a looong time to save for, too).

When cd came about, I refused to budge for years (& I mean years!!!). My son - he was about 11 then - had a cd walkman and we were delayed at Palma airport. He was busy on his game thingy. The wife had a book.
Boredom gripped me. I'd seen Tranformer in the shop, hours earlier. The cd player was idle. Fuck it, I thought. I bit the bullet and bought the same album, I'd already fucking saved hard for and earnedand carefully cherished and I sat down and spoiled myself.
It was worth it. Twice.

God rest you, sir. You made me happy.

A tribute from the great man himself......

''RIP Lou Reed.

'Oh Lou / why did you leave us this way?'

No words to express the sadness at the death of Lou Reed. He had been there all of my life. He will always be pressed to my heart. Thank God for those, like Lou, who move within their own laws, otherwise imagine how dull the world would be. I knew the Lou of recent years and he was always full of good heart. His music will outlive time itself.
We are all timebound, but today, with the loss of liberating Lou, life is a pigsty. - MORRISSEY''

Was his last album that piece of shit he did with Metallica? If so, that is a real shame

Saw the news last night and have to admit to feeling quite gutted. Great songwriter and will be sadly missed. RIP Lou.

A real miserable, cantankerous old bugger....will be missed. Not a single writer of this now generation capable of writing anything as good as Reed's worst offerings...

RIP

Had to give VU & Nico a spin today. Dont read the article in the Daily Mail, hatchet job on a dead man, pathetic.

I listen to that album at least once a fortnight, it's one of the few albums that gets better with every listen.

I don't know what the Mail are saying but them not liking him is a great legacy. I hope everyone I love/like/admire/know would be hated by the Mail. Not knowing any paedophiles or Nazis, I suspect that to be the case.

Overrated and boring.

RIP though.

'Cause you're so vicious, baby, you're so vicious

Best ignore the troll - he's just trying to be edgy and controversial.

Another who knows enough about making music to be able to criticise 90% of artists mentioned on here but have never actually produced anything themselves.

Get with the programme, kev.
Everyone knows that the only music worth listening to is by dead paedophiles or third rate smack-addled grunge plagiarists.
Lou Reed was simply too original, and too ahead of his time, and too, erm, white to be any good.

Do you mean Nij or the Troll?

Cos Nij looks suspiciously like Freddie Mercury and indulges in the same proclivities as the buck-toothed frontman.

Just sayin'...

Daily Mail does a hatchet job on a dead man?

Surely not.
