Again, you'll have confused a lot of the younger BM'ers. Just play safe from now on and don't mention C90 cassette tapes!
i've got hundreds of them, each with two albums on them from when i spent a lonely easter vacation living next door to a record library
1978's version of illegal downloading
Sunday evenings listening to the top 40 on radio 1, waiting for the song you want to come around, then trying to tape it without catching any of the inane ramblings of whichever DJ was presenting it; those were the days. Young 'uns these days don't realise what they missed out on!
me too!
listening to radio luxembourg in bed

apologies to all the traditionalists on here , but as my LP collection is in the loft , i had to play "rock n roll animal " on a compact disc , treachery , Played it at volume level 18 (20 makes my ears bleed) and with a nice few glasses of hennessy and ice . Lou reed didnt know the meaning of bullshit , he just told the truth , a hard act to follow.

When was it switched to Midweek? Because I definitely remember being at school and listening to the countdown on my radio. Think
It was about 1245 on a Tuesday or something. But then I also remember the Sunday countdown too. Confused now :-(

it was certainly midweek in 73

i remember going into my geography lesson having found out life on mars had hit the top 5

For those who aren't sure about him, try "Oh! Sweet Nothin'" on VU album "loaded". Wrote many great tunes which will live forever. Cheers Lou.

It was definitely midweek in 1980 too because I remember The Specials getting to number one with Too Much Too Young and all my girly classmates rolling their eyes ;-)
But then I remember looking forward to the Sunday countdown too at around the same period.
Was it just that it was both?

Had a day working at home and played Lou Reed all day. What struck me was the incredible variety in his music, and all done with just two or three chords. He was the original street poet/rapper but then produces Rock n Roll Animal, a heavy rock masterpiece. Street Hassle (the track, with Bruce Springsteen) is still cutting edge - sits as a follow up to his concept album Berlin. Want gold plated pop - try New Sensations. The title track a must for any bikers and a bass line that delivers.

The man covered so many bases that few could like all his music but fewer still could not like something. All delivered in a way that meant you knew it was him. Not derivative of anyone yet so influential. Underrated, under valued and underplayed in the mass media. Love the fact that a record that includes the line 'even when she was giving head' was a hit record in the early seventies. It was not done to shock. It was his world written about as he saw and lived it. A social commentator on New York city life warts and all.

What becomes a legend most .... Well tonight's it you.....

Loved the album with John cale written for Andy Warhol - songs for drella (or something like that)

Played vicious on the jukebox last night
