Low cost airlines, love 'em or hate 'em

Also they do exactly what it says on the tin.
And safely too!

Don't mind them at all. Ryanair get a fierce slagging off at times, including on here, but they're a godsend to us exiled blues. Flew over for the Hull game recently (Zzzz....) and flew from Ireland West Airport (aka Knock) into Liverpool with Ryanair for €60. As long as people realise you're not going to be served a five star complimentary meal and be served with hot and cold stewardesses for the flight, and that you'll have a 10 minute walk to your departure gate, you'll be fine. You get what you pay for with the budget airlines. Hypocritical to then moan about them, in my opinion.

just returned from knock 43 pound return to liverpool stayed in ennisrone and the craic was good.
where about do you live mate?

Have booked flights Dublin Lisbon with TAP, Portuguese airline.
A few people I know have travelled with them and said they were OK, similar to Ryanair.
The wife is reading reviews and most of them are bad, poor customer service, unannounced flight changes etc.
Has anyone flown with them recently who could give their opinion.

Used them for the Nations League two years ago. They were fine, all three flights on time and no unhidden excess charges.

Indeed. They fly to destinations all over world. Loss making airline 72.5% owned by Portugese state.

Probably a lot of reviews based on relatively minor things (that are more likely to go wrong on long hauls/with transfers) but people are less likely to let go of after longer more expensive flights.

I flew with them in 2019. Manchester to Lisbon return. Flights were on time and had no problems

They come in for flack for some obvious penny pinching, but if we want to complain about something it should be train travel. Several times over the last few years I've got a better deal going to London, Scotland and at least one Eurostar destination on the plane rather than the train. Admittedly with the train you arrive smack in the city centre though, but still anything but (very) advance booking and at specific times is a racket on our railways.

I honestly think you have to be an idiot and/or a narcissist to get fined like people do on low cost airlines, and then moan about it. I’ve flown a hell of a lot with them all, and they’re always fine. EasyJet are my favourite but I like the “just get on and sit down” attitude of RyanAir at times too. Jet2 are brilliant.
