Lowering the drink driving limit

Nothing miserable about not drinking & driving or reducing your speed.

When I heard the news break this morning the excuse was politicians were concerned that the number of deaths had remained about the same over the last few years. Bearing in mind the population has gone up about 15% over the last few years I would say that is a positive.

And so is reducing all speed limits to 15mph and banning alcohol altogether. At some point you have to make a compromise.

I don't think we need to go any further than we currently do. We have some of the safest roads in the world already.
 
It's actual driving they want to be cutting down on, the roads are clogged with Doris and Dave smashing about in £500 bangers choking us all to death, the powers that be known this, hence them trying to bring in the clean air zones, but our wonderful mayor went with the majority and fucked it off so Doris and Dave can still get to b+m bargains half a mile away without having to walk

That is my point exactly. Personally I always stay within the limit, never drink during the day and had a clean license for over 50 years. The new laws will not affect the hardened drinkers, just those who will no longer be arsed popping down to their Local having a couple of drinks and trying to keep their Local afloat. In a few years there will be a thread where have all the pubs gone.
 
Living out in the sticks I see loads of people in the local drinking and then driving home. All older generation. All because their closest village pub has shut down. One old boy has 6 pints regularly before going home.

I don’t know if you have been to Wales recently. I am fortunate enough to have a car that constantly updates the speed on a particular road. The frustration is most cars don’t and the amount of cars that tailgate the car in front that doesn’t realise the speed on that particular stretch is not 20 mph. The most amusing thing is as soon as you leave the road on to a car park the limit increases to either 30 /40 mph. Crazy.

Then he will remain over the current limit and have the book thrown at him so idiots like that will ignore the change in any case.

Same here. Clean license since I obtained it about 20 years ago now. Never driven over the limit.

Truth be told I can be a bit of a lightweight when it comes to drinking so a drink outside of meal times in a hot pub can hit surprisingly hard. Unless I'm having a meal and sitting down for a few hours then I'll generally stick to just a half these days.

But I also understand that not everyone is like me and many other people can handle their pints to a far better degree. They don't deserve to be punished for it.

You shouldn't be driving after 2 pints. Ideally, you shouldn't have any alcohol at all if you're driving.

As for country pubs, a lot have already closed down, and most of the rest have been struggling since the smoking ban and rely on food sales. That's when the 'designated driver' is essential.

Uber? No such thing round my way. Struggle to get a taxi most times. It's mainly farmer types. To be fair to the young farmers they have a designated driver. Its the old boys. So stuck in their ways.

Ahh, right. I live in the countryside. Do you know of any websites I can nominate a designated driver when wifey says, why don’t you pop out for a swift half whilst I prepare your tea dear.
