Lyon (A) - Post Match Thread

We seem to have a shit CL performance in us every season, hopefully tonight was this year's!

Better to get that performance out of our system in the group stage rather than the knockouts.
Did you not watch the first leg? ;-)

He did although fluffed his shots a bit. My concern was he gave possession away too many times and was bailed out twice by Laporte and Stones. He's still settling into the team but I would think with Kev and Bernardo in they would not have had so many clean breaks down the middle. For me Sane and Sterling are the first choice wide men every time but it's a long season and we will need Marhez for sure.
No prob with what you say, the result works for us, but we were not that great.

I fail to see what the issue in the midfield has to do with Mahrez. Also, I didn't have the impression he lost possession more than others. He was impactful on both goals. Anyway, good point today.

So what is it about Lyon that we seem to struggle with?

It reminded me a bit of playing liverpool last season - opposition who looked hugely motivated to be playing us, very physical and athletic and pressing esp for the first hour, love playing with rapid pace on the break,

Out of sight? Mahrez hit 3 back passes should have scored 1 probably. They missed 2 open goals hit the bar and had a point blank header kept out after 3 or 4 minutes. Only One team could have been out of sight by ht and that was Lyon.
Yes City got out of jail big-time there,no way we could have been out of sight, not firing on all cylinders but dug out a good result

tihs was actually our 3rd shit CL performance this season. against lyon at home and hoffenheim away (despite winning). Only performed well against Shakhtar so far. I think its mental more than anything why we struggle against tricky teams in CL.

players know City must do well in this competition which makes them nervous etc. PSG has the same issue.

Good game to watch and happy with the point they could have been well ahead at half time but for their finishing. They are a young talented team with no fear at home. Not the greatest performance but resilience shown to come back twice and now qualified with a game to spare so no complaints.
