Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

And a lot of the posters didn’t give a toss about this competition. Make your minds up
You are right especially with Uefa victimhood. Personnaly i don't give a fuck about winning the CL if the team can continously win PL and Cups

But losing 4 QF in row against lesser teams after all the shit talk form some players about the importance of the CL etc

Starting from Kyle Usain Bolt Walker, he didn't track Cornet who followed the ball then bim 1-nil and have to chase the game

I could see us doing a major overhaul after this. Stones, Otamendi, Angelino, Zinchenko all out. Bring in Koulibaly and another left back, maybe even a defensive mid to replace Fernandinho.

To unlock a watertight defence, we need midfielders who can dribble and take on players, and make quick inch perfect passes to the forwards. Gundogan, Rodri and Dingo don't dribble and are not suited for the intricate pass and move game, and KDB was on the wings. How exactly does Pep's tactics/personnel helped against Lyon yesterday?
The pedestrian midfield has hurt our game so often this season. That first 40 mins was criminally bad ending up with so many long balls,
Pep really did get it badly wrong and what was worse was that he didnt actually play our best wing backs who are Cancelo and Mendy. They played that role well around the New Year- why didn’t he do that?

Garcia did well to get the tackle in, but he has not got any pace.
He had enough intelligence and pace to get back and make the tackle, when the other quicker, more experienced players didn't get back. You can keep criticising him like everyone else but we all know why. The same thing happened with Sane, who is now openly considered a lazy twat who never did anything and never deserved to be in the team because he was shit anyway. Grown men who can't handle a bit of rejection.

It certainly is bud. I also recall him having an absolute nightmare against Chelsea last year in the League Cup final before he went off injured?

I'm just observing how some top players do get an easier ride than others?

Walker and Eddie have also gone AWOL at moments when it comes to just doing their jobs?

I fear minus KDB, some of our lads still feel like they are plucky underdogs?

Certainly not helped when Pep also suggests we are in this competition.

It's complete bollocks- we are an elite club and team already - you don't beat Madrid home and away otherwise.
Yes, this. We have all the attributes to be a team other clubs gear being drawn against.

But instead, our attitude isn't "if we play our game you're toast", it's "how must we adapt to this opponent", regardless of whether the opponent is Real Madrid or Bristol City.

Players get confidence from understanding how good they are, reinforcing their strengths. Pep always seems to focus on the weakness.

And finally, I regret to say this, but there is an inherent arrogance in Pep believing that he personally must be the one to find the secret ingredient to beat every opponent. The best teams in history have developed a style, a confidence in themselves and I've another - the manager's role is to enable that, not to solve every question for them before a ball has been kicked. It's fundamentally disempowering.

For me we only got going in last ten of first half on left side when Laporte started to bring the ball out
You talk about players getting an easy ride but I think it’s the other way round
I think Laporte carries defence and de bruyne midfield because Garcia Cancelo gundogan Rodri and fern add nothing but predictabie sideways passing
Aouar massive upgrade on our centre mids

Spot on.
The coach is the leader of a team, and a leader has to lead.
The line-up was a negative message.
And to be honest, seeing Pep on his knees when we concede doesn't fit my view of a big relaxed man but of some childish, nervy wreck.

Compare Pep to Klopp.
Pep has more style, more tactical class. But Klopp's a mentality monster and surprise, surprise his players are as well and somehow win
even though we all can see they aren't the best skilled players.

Pep is criminally underrating the mental part of the game - or he is unable to address it just because he hasn't that part in his character.
Then he would have to outsource that mental aspect to an expert or he will never win the CL (without prime Messi).

End of the day you have to sign winners. Characters who can stand high mental pressure and deliver. Bayern follow that line and unlikeable or not Neuer, Muller, Kimmich and Goretzka have it. We have not enough of those in our squad, and we know it.
I don't know why PEP keep acting like a drama queen on his knees what the fuck you are manager of Man City not a pub team who missed out a qualication in a cup game
