Lyon (H) - Post Match Thread

Lazy, piss poor and half arsed.
Summed up perfectly by Walker taking that freekick, he cannot pass a ball all night, but suddenly he thinks he's a better freekick taker than Mahrez.
We didn't deserve anything from that game.
Favourites? On that performance I wouldn't have us favourites in the Johnson paint trophy.
I hope Pep's tearing them to fucking shreads.

Awful all round individually and collectively. Really shocking lapses of concentration for both goals. The team looked lopsided before the start and even more so once we kicked off. Hard to write more as I don't want to get too depressed. Pep now has to earn his corn because mentally some players still look to be on the beach.

Too many passes given away, by walker and dinho. Gundogan offered nothing defensively, highlighted dinho even more. Delph should have just stayed at home with Jesus drinking his tea Yorkshire tea made him for the World Cup.

Makes me laugh when someone suggests that we werent much better when Gundo made way for Sane. I'll tell you what, if Gundo hadn't left the pitch, we would have been bummed.

Like are you kidding me? You compare how things were when it was 0-0 vs when it was 0-2 and claim that we weren't much better just to protect Gundo. This guy is not our level, take it or leave it.

I know certain players were not at the races but whe a player consistently delivers poor to just above average performances, then you gotta call him out.

Pep is the one I blame in all this. I thought we had learned from the Wolves match.

Lol

Wrong starting line up.

Gundogan & ferna shouldn’t be in the same side at home.
Bernardo shouldn’t be our wide with Mahrez & Sané on the bench.
Aguero should be starting.

David had an off night and when he does, we really miss De Bruyne.

No one played well though. Better that to happen now than later on.

Really horrible performance. Smacked of complacency, right from the team selection. First half was beyond wank, we improved in the second but nowhere near enough.
Fair few problems that need addressing, quickly. Start to the season has been depressingly reminiscent of those in previous post-title-winning years.

Got what we deserved with the shape we started with.

We gifted them 2 goals, and it was always uphill from there. Thought they defended well, and retained the ball well as well.

Bad day at the office for us.

Ederson 7
Stones 6
Walker 2
Laporte 6
Delph 2
Gund 2
Fern 1
B Silva 5
D Silva 4
Sterling 7
Jesus 2
Sane 6
Kun 6

Arteta 2
Worst City performance in years.

Most I almost agree with.

Not sure about Laporte’s rating. More like a 4 or 5.

Beaten a few times and gave the ball away more than I can ever recall since he’s joined.

Also Kun, but Tbf barely had a sniff of the ball
And almost scored a 93:20 replica goal near the end.

Pep got it all wrong.
1. Gundogan and Fernandinho playing together at home .... Why?
2. Pep's continual misplaced faith in Gundogan in general.
3. Mendy is injured so Sane was omitted from the starting lineup? So we could play with zero pace and width?

This is not the same Man City as last season. I hope all the happy clappers over summer are satisfied. "We won the league by 19 PTS we don't need anyone, we are gonna walk it in again". Dream on.

"Mahrez is the final piece of the puzzle we need to unlock stubborn defenses? That's gone well so far. I wanted us to go all out for Zaha at the time and nothings changed. Would have been a far better for to our team and missing out on a dynamic central midfielder is going to be huge.

It's only 1 game, but we should be winning at home to Lyon.

Easier to say who played well than criticise those that didn’t....

Sterling was ok, Sane too....that it.

Tbf I thought Lyon were very good. Like the look of Fekir and Ndombele, Denayer played well as did their keeper, and their manager got his tactics spot on.

It was clear we weren’t our usual self after 30 minutes. It should have been changed then when it was obvious we were getting nowhere.
Lesson learned. Don’t play Gundog or Jesus, they’re just not up to it.
As soon as Berni moved into MF, our tempo adjusted. If the few opportunities we did create, yet again we can’t put them away.
Well done to Lyon. They deserved that win, and to be fair we were lucky not to have conceded 4 and been embarrassing !!!
The media hype will be mental now, imagine if we had been bummed.
We appeared casual and lethargic, no urgency to run off the ball and create space, coupled with keystone cop defending we have no one to blame but ourselves.
It will be interesting to see how we bounce back from this. Hopefully they’ll get a fisting from Pep for that performance.

Question: what was the reason for aguero being dropped? He needs to start every game if he's not injured. Jesus is not our main guy at his stage of development
He picked a knock up against Fulham. Do you want him to get an injury?
