Confession to make, was in the City end that night (aged 16), and missed the goal, due to all the scrapping going in in the bottom paddock, where Spurs had got tickets in our end! (they must have had 50,000 plus at Wembley that night, not surprising, as they would have snaffled up those tickets made available directly from Wembley at the time).
Missing spectacular goals became a bit of a forte for me, I missed Jim Melrose's goal v Charlton at Maine Road from near the half way line, I was reading my programme when all of a sudden there was an almighty roar and the Kippax just went mental!
Thank God I didnt miss Dennis Tueart's overhead winner against Newcastle at Wembley to win the FL Cup Final, still my favourite City goal of all time.....

I thought the Melrose goal was v Notts County but you may be right as i missed it also.

It was Notts County....stood on a very quiet Kippax, 20,000 at Maine Road that day!

Was in Platt Lane and was unreal for a split second being so far away, has that gone in? What a goal!

Was at the drawn game and like others couldn't afford to go to replay as an 18 year old on crap wages.

I thought to myself it's onwards and upwards for City from this, cup finals, league champions, etc

Steve Mackenzie used to do some coaching at the Platt Lane complex to some of us local kids every week. He was a top guy and I used to get a lift to Withington from him after training, a plush new Saab club car who were the sponsors, from memory he lived near to the Old House at Home on Burton Rd.
He scored a goal in the Platt Lane end in a derby game( anyone help me with the game) and as a kid I couldn't wait to see him at training to talk about it. He told us his boots had split after he scored and he had to change, they were lying in the back of the car and he gave them to me, no idea where they are now.

That goal never got the credit it deserved. It also stopped it kicking off big time behind our goal as there were loads of Spurs in the bottom tier there with it being midweek.

It was kicking off when the goal went in I missed it as I was watching the scrapping!

I missed it too, going off big time just below me.
Came out of wembley that night and remember the cool cats kicking off with spurs near the coach park
