Madrid away

Unfortunately I have just been contacted by Madrid Municipal Museum, due to industrial action by staff, all museums will be closed for 3 days starting tomorrow. I suppose I will just have to go on the piss then.

Thats my trip ruined. I'll have to be a sheep and drink instead.

So as I said I'm sat in this bar (great music and beer by the way) - got my city shirt on - and they put on a replay of the Leicester game just for me (didn't ask) - bless them. Think I'll come here tomorrow to watch barca game - could be interesting.

But where?

Any meets ups Tuesday night/ weds afternoon . I’m sure loads have asked this question on previous pages . But would like to know where everyone will be .

Do not bother with the plaza mayor (or whatever it is called)

Head to malasana area. That I hear is better and I will be there.

Triskel Tavern about 5pm Wednesday

At the risk of missing the humour on here again ;) I posted some tips about Malasaña and that area, including that Irish pub, plus stuff about taxis etc earlier.

If anyone remembers that video of the Blues getting their heads cracked by the Paramilitary police that was just because a nosey neighbour called the police when she couldn't drive her car straight into her garage. That's all it took for five riot vans to arrive with the coked up inside ready to smash young, old female heads. Which they did.
Anyway, some may find some of the info useful so posting it again here.

Madrid is such a great city for football if you can avoid the main tourist shite.
Have a great trip Blues.

Cheers. NP
There aren't a great deal of museums around that area. But If you're interested, I'd recommend heading down to the Fine Art institute just off the way down Gran Via. Get up on the roof terrace or hobnob in the bar. Spectacular. https://www.circulobellasartes.com/azotea/

The 3 big must see museums are all down on the Paseo Prado which is kind of the other way. This is the route to see all of them, plus the above. As you can see the centre of Madrid isn't big. About 1/2 an hour each way from Sol takes you to the edge.

On the way, you see Plaza Neptune which is where Atleti celebrate their triumphs and and then Plaza Cibeles where RM fans take over when they win. It's got some of the must see views in Madrid.

For curries, cheep beer and Edge. (not my responsibility)

Head down to the Lavapíes area. Again 10 minutes from Sol. Wouldn't fuck about in this area, especially at night, but you'll get what you need. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lavapiés/@40.4090055,-3.7013168,19z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0xd42262b70745fd3:0xf8234270a46d263!8m2!3d40.4084512!4d-3.7007072

Transport
I'd fuck the Metro off. You have to get a card now 5 euros then charge it with 1 or 10 trips. If you do that get one per five people and charge the 10. Then pass the card each time for each person. It'll be a mare though at the station if loads of blues are trying to work out this system plus the tourists.
I'd use the Taxis. Especially if there are more than 3. It's just not worth the difference in price. And if there are more things Madrid has than bars, it's taxis.

Stadium
As for drinking up at the stadium. I'd go east and north of it. The road at the at the South of the ground is where their Ultras meet in the bars. I' don't think the police let anyone through anyway, but you never know.

Now you just concentrate on museums

Now you are a true blue, thinking of others before yourself, what a guy. A ham museum what could be better, well a ham museum that sells beer and ham !!! I think this could be the place.

@nijinsky That is a great call re Malasana, The Plaza Mayor is the training ground for the Fascist thugs otherwise known as the Madrid cops. There are so many brilliant areas full of bars etc away from there. We will be heading for that area for certain.

They often threaten that. Just like the breathalysers. Never happened to me. To be on the safe side, don't arrive when its quiet. I reckon best time is about 30 - 45 mins before kick off. There's not many drinking suggestions on this thread, more in terms of areas to avoid. Be good if someone could reccomend a good place to meet up. At the mo I'm about 2km west of stadium in a beer, rock and footy TV bar which is ok but might be better atmosphere nearer centre. Any suggestions anyone?

After what happened in 2016, I'd say that's the worst possible time to arrive and it may be better to get there a lot earlier in my opinion. While there's absolutely no excuse for the utterly disgaceful behaviour of the Madrid police that night, if most City fans are dropping on the stadium half an hour or so before kick-off, that's what seems to contribute to most of the issues.

If some of you want a quieter hour before the bedlam, try San Miguel market just down the road from the Plaza mayor. Good beer, wine and grub too.

Got the email of the club says summert about removing footwear on entry , wot the f@@k is that

The market is well worth a visit some really good food stalls. Wouldn't bother with the bars in Plaza Major.
A couple of good food/bars close to ground mainly frequented by locals .

Yes got an email stating this and photo I'd.
They advise you to be in the ground at least 1 hour before kick off.
Usually don't bother with that advice but I will tomorrow.
