I think there was an expectation at the club that Kolo might have left in the last transfer window, so Maicon appeears to have been brought in to take his squad place. In Europe he already has of course.

Also, as has been pointed out, it allows Richards to play at centre back as well.

Bought him for same reason Kolarov often comes on at the same time as Dzeko, I reckon. You never know, he may just pop up with a few delightful crosses onto Edin's head, or a couple of screamers and that couple of million might be found to be money well spent.

Well I think if we played a back three of Lescott Kompany and Micah, we would be fine with Maicon playing on the right wing and the back 3 would whorl much more effectively

Can't wait until he's fit and flying down that right flank. He did well against Stoke I thought and I think people should give him a chance.

Also, Maicon is the player we want Richards to be. If Micah learns from Maicon, it's win win, we get a new, younger version.
