Thought he was brilliant at times. Think he was at fault for their goal but going forward the guy is just amazing. Love watching him run past me and whip in beautiful balls for fun. Should've scored today but you can see why he was rated the best fullback in the world not so long ago.

i agree, couple of defensive mistakes but great outlet on the right even if he doesnt produce always, he is always a good option and willing to get forward.

the big upside with Maicon is that he's another creative option for us. We really lack for creativity and Maicon offers quite a bit. Many of his crosses are just perfect balls to attack. What I really love, aside from the above, is that he's one of the few players we have who seems truly comfortable with the ball at his feet in tight spaces. If there's one thing we're lacking in Europe, I think that in some ways is it.

He was probably pretty poor (for him) on the whole today. Lots of cheap giveaways (unfortunately comfortable with the ball at his feet today) and obviously got caught ball watching on the goal. I don't know if he's going to be a 90 min player every week for us, but I think I like him (and the 3-5-2) in games like the Villa game where we can expect a lot of the ball and need someone to help break down some stubborn defenses. As a 2 way player against Real Madrid may be too much of an ask at this point.

Great going forward, puts a really dangerous ball into the box. But like Kolarov on the opposite side he's not the best defender.

Can see Mancini's logic in wanting to play them further forward and wish Clichy was fit last night so we could have started with a back four and these guys ahead of/overlapping/covering Zab and Clichy.

Make sure he doesnt have defensive duties.

It can be done with others working more. He should be playing as a winger for us only.

Probably he is perfect for the role AJ played last year. Can give assists will score a few goals too.

Sinclair thought he will be playing at least as much as AJ did last season. Poor guy.

Not a full back in my opinion, if he defends their first goal we win the game 1-0. But I get your drift he's great as an attacking wide right player!!

At times tonight he was fantastic, other times a sunday league player.

Well said. His ball control is woeful at times yet he can put in a blinding cross. We've had too many players like that over the years.

geez, I guess it may be nationalism (I am brazilian) but Hart should have been more aggressive. In Brazil we say, if the ball lands in the small box, its always the goalies fault. Guess its just different views on football, if Chelsea hits a wrong free throw, its always David Luiz's fault. Every mistake in an English team defence the commentators and public always blame the Brazilians, well if you put 11 Brazilian together why do we win so much more than any one else? Plus, tell me one european center back that is not italian that was as good as Lucio, Aldair, Luisao, etc. Differnet ways of viewing football. Enlighs people love to see everyone on their correct position, like their society is.. so correct, yet so boring and failing. English football is whack and stop blaming it all on brazilians, I registered just to post this. Im sick of the david luiz, andre santos, and maicon bashing on these forums

It was Maicon's fault. It was really really shit defending. I don't believe for one second that most people in Brazil think it was anything else. You are lying.

In Maicon's defence, he was put into a system the team is not comfortable with & there was a misunderstanding which cost the goal (& could have cost others) imo due to the manager making a terrible mistake. Later, Maicon played some good stuff.

Luiz is dog shit as a defender by the way & will lose Brazil the World Cup if picked.

Given us an extra dimension going forward as he times he moves to cross low on the run which suits more of our runners in the box making position.

No complaints from me with his contribution since returning from injury.

As mentioned before everyone of our players in the squad including those who have come in for much criticism after less than 12 games of the season will have a role to play this year.

Providing we start to hit the heights close to what he did in the first eleven games last year for an extended period of time in the remaining 26 games I cannot see any side finishing ahead of us this year but it is a big proviso.

The reality is we have more depth in the squad this season as can be testified by the number of injuries we have had so far to key personnel as opposed to last season and while we don't have the same energy and speed and accuracy of movement of the ball in opposition thirds as we did at the start of last season injuries to Kompany , Zabaletta, Silva, Maicon, Richards, Nasri, Aquerro, Balotelli , Rodwell, Milner, Barry , Lescott , Garcia etc have played a role.

Tevez , Dzeko, Yaya and Hart have been the only squad members available for every game.

Compare that to Chelsea , Arsenal , Tottenham , Everton , WBA and even Manure's list and you get a clearer picture.

Silva and Aguerro has no pre season in the clubs build up to the season and I could go on.

Dortmund could go on to win the Chumps this year but it will come at the expense of the title in Germany and Real are shoe ins to progress each year so despite a poor second half against Ajax and not producing what we should have in the return leg a bit of perspective needs to come to the fore.

Maicon is no Hargraves.

It is much easier for teams to organise themselves to stop us creating decent goal scoring chances. Space is closed down and you only need willing runners with a modicum of tackling expertise for that game plan. We really need someone who can run at a player, beat them senseless for pace and a terrific shot when he connects - there's some young Italian guy with a penchant for silliness. Whatever happened to him?

Maicon should have been more aware of and covering the run BUT it shouldn't have mattered as Joe should have collected the ball with ease.It travelled 40 yards and landed about 5 yards out for Benzema. That's a misjudgement by Joe

Haha. I genuinely thought Luiz was Portuguese.
