Man Arrested for trying to sell Pep’s hacked emails

He worked as a contractor for us for two years from 2016.

He was working inside the club and accessed all of Pep's contacts from his phone on a Proton Mail encrypted email account.

The story also mentions the Liverpool hack.

Implies to me that he was given Pep's password, I know from experience that Proton Mail destroys everything when you ask to reset your password, just in case.

The IT sector relies heavily on contractors so businesses are always at risk of data leakage, either intentionally or accidentally. This guy's career is over and hopefully City push for jail time as that will send a message to anyone else thinking about doing the same. The contractor seemingly was employed by a consultancy so I do hope they have the necessary insurance to cover their employee's actions. That said, you can employ as much security as you want, there simply isn't a way of totally preventing this kind of act if someone wants to do it. Hopefully everyone at City has been briefed about the security weakness of emails and not to discuss or reveal sensitive info in them.

Another one, interesting.

I think the "football is bent" or whatever his website is called said that they had a ton of information for City but they refused to hand it over as they knew people within the club were working against the club so it wasn't going to be held up. Might be something to that after all.
Yes it is called football is fixed:

"Manchester City also leaks like a sieve. We know of 8 individuals (including three players) who do not have Manchester City's best interests at heart either deliberately by batting for the other side or via inefficiencies and stupidities undermining the operation.
And this has impact.
Another example - Oxbridge educated Vicky Kloss is Chief Communications Officer at the club.
Yet on foreign trips she is the biggest source of cybersecurity weakness in the entire enterprise as she repeatedly flouts internal security rules and standards.
A rogue operator could hack into City via targeting Ms Kloss.
And she used to work for the police!!!
Cybersecure she is not."
"
The initial business model at Manchester City was simple but enlightening - sovereign wealth + meritocracy = growth + expansion.
And for a number of years this worked. Wonderfully.

But the weakness was in the structure.
Private fiefdoms became established in the club (particularly within the self-harming entity that is Manchester City Analytics) and bottlenecks of inefficiency developed at key communication points while numerous individuals surfed their performance protecting their mortgages and private school financing while adding little to the overall project.

The evolution of these fiefdoms has entirely undermined the club.
Meritocracy has been trumped by mediocrity.
Good people are leaving and others (like the Football is Fixed Network) are not willing to get involved - we refuse to work with any entity that leaks and withdraw immediately in such instance (as we did with City).

Leading people in Manchester City Analytics have been sacked recently following our disclosures of deliberate leakage of proprietary analytics to Liverpool (via a mafia-influenced route) and absolute poverty of performance in assessing corruptions being perpetrated against Manchester City's interests. City have lost Sancho and the 2019/20 Premier League title because of Manchester City Analytics - the entire entity needs disbanding and rebuilding more professionally."

Front page of The Sun today. Hardly a splash.

A 'rogue IT worker'

Appears we might well have people working inside the club against us?

Not that I believe a lot of what they post but that "Football is Fixed" Twitter account alluded to people inside our organisation working against us early in the season.

Bloody hell this goes back to the days of Swales and Maine Road and the fifth column lol.

On a serious note Khaldoon needs to get right on this we have enough enemies on the outside without having the shitehouses working for us.

It does make you wonder, if this is front page news, how on earth the Liverpool hack wasn't?

The first time they win the league in 30 years yet their current squad is built around players they pipped us to (Van Dijk etc) no doubt on the basis of stolen information from our transfer database.

Compared to that level of cheating, this story here is simply a footnote.

Bloody hell.

I take it the club are aware of this now.

VK doesn’t come out well if they are correct.

I wonder who the three players were/are.

Didn't he mention something about being spied on in a recent prezzer ? Pretty sure it was when Barca were mentioned with regard to our ban announcement.
Think that was the under pressure president of Barca, who was reported to have employed ppl to spy on a shed load of Barca employees and contacts. See also Harvey Weinstein. Nothing to do with us, I guess.

what a dick - this lad has made himself totally unemployable - unless for a competitor (hmmm) - there's some serious murky stuff going on - be interesting to know how the Pinto bloke hacked the City system and if there are any links. This contractor obviously had Admin privileges but wonder of there are any more within - thing is if someone has the right access they can scrub logs etc.

Full security audit from an external party required here - sure they already know that
Already been done I believe. Depending how long ago, it probably needs to be done again.
Not encrypting email data at rest is so amateur it's scary.
Still they have two email security firms on the case at the moment so maybe lessons have been learnt.
