I was thinking more that some of the girls could read this forum(you never know, they hardly get the wages or lifestyle of the men) so reading some of those comments wouldn't be nice.

That's all, besides it's different to say someone is fit to think they're not, one's a compliment and the other is quite rude, particularly to disect a group on a public forum, but that's just my opinion.

Fair enough mate it was an ill-judged joke

;)

Never assume you know which gender you're talking too...
He's fishing and the gender of his catch wouldn't matter.
As for the pic, every time a pic is put on like this the thread attracts a few of the type that you wouldm't want to see it.

I'm not sure the football club see the ladies team as part of their fabric quite honestly. I should think dealing with it is a bit of a nightmare in terms of making sure all coaches and volunteers are CRB checked etc and if I were City and I didn't know the many people who were running it, I'd probably keep my distance too.

I also daresay that the vast majority, whilst wanting any team with the clubs name to do well, probably don't really care too much.

Sorry if that offends. Just an opinion. If they play at mini coms at a discount and get kits provided then giving them more money would make the football club almost responsible and I'm sure they're not really wanting to go down that road. I think the best way forward would be to cut some kind of deal with CITC and go from that angle.

I wish you all the best, from what I have seen there is a whole of of skill in the women's game, sorry for some of the Neanderthal comments in this thread, some people forget what century they are living in

Back on topic, I do think that the ladies game is growing in this country and with the forward-thinking people at City now I'm sure the club will get behind the ladies team. I do feel a bit for the club though as they are on a hiding to nothing with things like this as they have so much money and are automatically seen as the bad guys if they don't throw a load of money at it.

Off topic now - I do think a major issue in ladies football is the size of the goals they use. The women goalkeepers are naturally smaller than the male goalkeepers and the amount of goals scored where the goalie is at fault is far too high. I expect people might find this sexist but it isn't, it would just make the game better in my opinion

I hope they will at some point and I do appreciate that things will take time. Should they throw loads of money at it? Perhaps not loads, but enough to ensure the club can meet running costs & expenses for the players who do travel very long distances to play and as they move up the league increase the finance.

On your second point, it is something I have thought about too the average height of a UK (eg) female is 5'4.4", while males are 5' 9.6" so its a valid point. Maybe better specialist training could help with increasing agility, spring and core fitness which is a component of fitness? Smaller goals maybe a benefit, but as more and more females take up the game and the pool of talent increases, in theory taller, better keepers would gravitate to the top. Certainly i think its about coaching in the younger years which is crucial (both genders) after all Barthez was/is 5ft 11 not tall for a keeper but played at the highest level, Iker Casillas is the same height and hasnt had a bad career, England's Karen Bardsley is slightly taller at 5ft 11 and a half, but still got beat from 30 yards against mexico so surely its about coaching, ability and athletism? Maybe see what the standard is like in 10 years when the players taking up the game now are coming through?

Thoughts?

Your opinion is welcome.

The club already checks CRB for the staff so thats all taken care of, its run excellently by the committee and is a Charter Standard Development Club see http://www.manchesterfa.com/News/2011/0 ... dAward.htm one of the highest awards going for a grassroots club.

Whats wrong with ambition? Dont think mini is at a discount, the way womens football is going with the launch of the Super League this summer womens football is becoming more professional, city could be a part of this. If people dont care then its up to them but sometimes that can also be due to a lack of promotion/visibility in the media/fanzines etc. Women still need to have roles models and something to aspire to for the future. City have England u19 players at this time, if one was to play for their country in the future and city had a part to play in that and were a club in the super league in the future wouldnt that be great for the club as a whole? After all regarding the athletics we back female athletes as much as the males .How much have people said about Dame Kelly Holmes and Paula Radcliffe in the past? What if they were never given an opportunity?

Yes it could be to do with the agility and spring etc I see your point. But I do think that smaller goals would be a big help. Whether it is feasable to make a specific ladies-sized goals is another matter. I also agree that it will be 5-10 years at least before we see the benefits in English ladies football from the coaching that is taking place at the moment - not only in goalkeeping but in a much stronger national league all-round.

I would also be slightly wary of suggesting MCFC could do a lot more to help the ladies team on here. I don't know if you are a coach for City ladies but if someone from the club reads this - which I'm sure they will - it might not go down too well. Not saying that you or anyone involved with the ladies team has said anyting inapproriate, I'd just be careful!

Disgraceful, that's the kind of comments that will hold the women's game back, its still FOOTBALL and its still Man City. By the way that's the Under 16's team which were NATIONAL & BRITISH Champions last year. Oh and City have two under 19 england players, one on the fringes of the under 21's, one northern irish international, average team age of 21.

Bet you get annoyed if females make comments that Aguero (for example) is a 'bit fit'. Grow up.

Have you not been in the Aguero thread it's half the guys calling him fit!

-- Sat Aug 20, 2011 11:37 pm --

Also the LADIES forum at MCLFC.COM shows the strength of feeling

"As a actual supporter of the mens football team, its quite embarrassing that we cant afford to help our girls squad out for what they see as inprofitable. I think we train harder, player better and win more than the men could ever do. We dont play for high price cars or for amazing figures in the bank account, we play for the badge and for the enjoyment of the game of football. If they were to help out, they would earn profit rise in the girls squad if they broadcast us more and let the fans know all about us. One page in the football programme every now and then is nothing and is easily missed out when people flick through it. This year our first team will make them notice when we win the league and get promoted to the national division, that will be done with no 6 figures in our bank accounts. If the mens team had a support and management system like the girls have, the men would be doing a better job at actually winning something. Instead week in and week out they make silly mistakes or not even try or go through the motions on the pitch and still earn a massive amount. Think the big boys at city should come and watch and see how football is really played on sunday when the first team beat blackburn and then they will realise we are worth having and helping."

I really hope the club get involved and that the two are able to work together well but I don't think comments like this will inspire City or some fans to help.

The first highlighted bit suggests that our players don't work their asses off every day in training to get into contention to play in the hardest league in the world.

And the second comment imo is disrespectful to the entire first team, Roberto and his staff are doing a great job and if this poster didn't notice we won the FA Cup.

As I say I do hope you get the finance from the club but try to avoid making digs at the club cause that wont win their support.

Nah I dont coach at city but am a city fan, i coach around the grassroots game both men and women, but have seen the benefits if clubs get involved. Forums are for opinions i think and im just sharing mine. I honestly dont know what goes on behind the scenes so I suppose its speculation i apologise for that, but viewing the starting comments on here I can get a fair idea I suppose Ive jumped on them a bit. Im just very passionate about football development both in men and the womens game. And to be honest having seen close hand what is given to lower league clubs in terms of cash to help centres of excellence produce the next talent in the mens game is poor compared to the money the game generates in this country, but thats another thread maybe haha :)

Like I say im an outsider looking in, like politics, football is about opinions I just having mine.

Like someone has said Forums are about opinions that's, that persons opinion which is only one of how many to actually mention the 1st team ?? not something I agree with but that's what evokes debate and seeing that the club WANTS to know what the fans think????
again back on topic MCLFC do not want thousands of pounds off the club ( if they get it brilliant!) all they want is a decision YES or NO as to whether they are going to get involved if YES, great and to what degree.... if NO, well let us get out and involve the many sponsors who want to be part of an evolving grass-roots footy team without the constraints of "BIG BROTHER" because we wear the clubs crest....TO REITERATE WHY THIS IS THE TOPIC...the impression people get is we ARE governed internally and receive financial contributions example = we played Stoke City Ladies last week in a friendly and we complimented them on their superb facilities one of, if not the best I have seen in grass-roots football, to which the Manager of the facility said " Thanks but I bet it's no where as good as your place the amount of MONEY you get from your lot ! (City )".....it's not his fault he believes that it's just the general perception people get if they see any "satellite" organisation THEY deemed associated with MCFC....

-- Tue Aug 23, 2011 10:07 pm --

Manchester City Ladies FC are delighted to announce the following:-
