Man City to make Daniel Sturridge Englands highest paid teen

Sturridge is overrated. He is so inconsistent its crazy. It does seem he is very cocky. I say negotiate it to 35K and tell him that he will get a bonus if he breaks into the first team and does well.

He is unproven. He might have potential but that doesn't mean he has made it yet. He has to be patient and let football get him the money not his agent. Based on football he is not the best football teenager in England, so why should he be paid as such?

If the figures Sturridge is reported to be demanding are anything close to the truth then we should get rid. We need hungry players who want to make a name for themselves, not greedy primadonnas who think they've made after half a dozen sub appearances. No other club would pay him anything even close to what he is asking - he needs to have a reality check and fast - maybe he is being poorly advised by a greedy agent.

Agree, at the end of the day when you talk about Sturridge you're
talking about potential and potential isn't worthy of £45k a week
or anything like it. I'd rather let him go.

Lets say 20k is a fair amount to pay him per week, would you buy someone of Sturridge's quality for £6.5 million? Of course you would, the extra 25k over 5 years only adds up to £6.5 million.

I see where you're coming from and seen others using the same basis to justify paying him big wages. There are some things that need to be remembered:-

1) He's only 19
2) He's only made 19 first team appearances in three seasons scoring 4 goals
3) He is not a regular first teamer
4) He has not played for England U-21 or the Senior team yet
5) How many Premiership teams out there can afford to pay him 50k a week? Not many!
6) How many Premiership teams better than City would start him week in week out and pay him 50k a week? Not many if any.

I could go on but I think you see where I'm going with this. As posted a week or so ago, I was told he was after much more than 50k a week. If he thinks he is a 50k a week player then let him go. The lad has a lot of work to do to become a 50k a week player and perhaps he needs to realise this. If I was Hughes, I would stick to my guns and offer him an appropriate wage which would increase dependent on more U-19, U-20, U-21 and full international caps, senior City starts and goals...if he isn't up for the challenge which would reward him handsomely in cash for meeting targets/ improving himself as a player...he can go chase the cash...probably only Chelsea would pay it and what are his chances of regular starts. As it is, the supposed interest from Aston Villa and Chelsea is probably agent talk.
