Man City's tactic, similar to Barca's?

Theres was a blog about this about 4-5wks ago, it was really interesting. The formation is referred to as the WW formation as the players line up like two W ontop of each other. The formation relies on possession of the ball, probing the opossition and only taking good chances as not to lose possession, when the opposition has the ball all the team must press to retain it.

Yeah comparing any prem team to Barcelona or Madrid right now is silly, both those clubs are far superior to anything in this league.

Sorry but I wish you`d read the thread properly.
The OP is not making any comparisons, like for like, with Players, but the way in which we`re trying to move to a different system/formation.
This is something that Bobby Manc has always said.Give him time, the right players to blend to play this formation and we will see a different City.
That was very evident against WBA,Fulham and for me Birmingham was just one of those games, when on a good day we could have easily won.

It's pretty obvious we are trying to emulate the Barca set-up, a lot of teams play like that including Chelsea.

Problem is I don't really see Yaya in that creative, attacking central midfielder role so we actually have NDJ and 2 x CMs and in a lot of games we ended up with a flat 4-3-3 apart from at Fulham (maybe West Brom). Without that key midfielder breaking from midfield we don't have a spare man at the edge of the box, surging in late like Lampard at Chelsea.

I know Yaya tries to get forward and I think he can improve but think we are missing that key midfielder, AM (but operating from midfield) with vision, passing and technical skills (you can't describe Barry as box-to-box).

Tevez's lack of height restricts our option in the final third also, that's one of the reason's I think Dzeko is on the radar. Ade's inability to challenge for a header and Rocky's crockiness limit us. I think BM would like the option to go 4-2-3-1 sometimes and I think in that situation Tevez would drop to the central AM type position/support striker with wings staying the same.

We are a million miles off the likes of Barcelona, lets not kid ourselves.

We are not a million miles away from Barca, ok we are not quite there yet but we are not that far away. Imo we are twelve months and 2/3 players away from them.
Barca and Real look great every week battering what are now poor La Liga teams. Do you think they could do that in the Prem? We can hold our own against anyone in this league, yes we will have some hiccups but that is because we haven't played together long enough yet.

Its been well known that Barca's style and Spains for that matter which is possesion football is the most effective, the only trouble is when it comes off it looks great, when it doesn't it looks boring.

Hopefully within five years everybody in football will be talking about us in footballing terms in the same way as they do now about Barca.

Actually i think Kompany is a better defender than both Puyol and Pique....especially Pique.

They both play in a team who absolutely dominate possession. They are rarely on the back foot, and at the Nou Camp, most opposing teams don't often make much impact in the final third as they simply don't have the ambition to get bodies up field quick enough. Barca press very well as a unit and usually win the ball back somewhere around the half way line.

Pique has good technical ability and he is big and fairly strong. However, don't let his technical ability fool you into thinking he is the best defender in the world, because in reality he's nowhere near. His decision making is very erratic and his concentration levels aren't the greatest. His positioning can be a bit off at times and he can also be a little rash. Sometimes he just does things which can oddly be described as 'odd'.

Commentators talk about how much he's improved since his United days, but i just don't see it. He does things that make you say 'he's a good player' but that doesn't mean he is the best at what he should be doing, which is defending. A pinpoint 40 yard pass is great when a defender can confidently pull it off and he can. A shimmy to lose the attentions of an attacker can also look great. But it's the bread and butter stuff which he sometimes struggles with, and that's why i would much prefer to have Kompany playing for us than Pique.

we definitely use the same formation and style that barca do, only difference is barca play a very high defensive line and try to contain the opposition in their own half and maintain possession in the opponents half. the only problem with this is youve got to have quick CBs, toure and VK are probably not as quick as pique is
