Man dies after collision with Metrolink

A guy at work 'saw it'. Apparently it was the back of the tram swinging around the corner that hit the guy, it wasn't a hit from the front on. So I doubt the driver would have seen it, but by the sounds of it the driver's pretty traumatised.

But having seen those trams, when they take corners, they do swing out a hell of a lot. Best thing to do is stand a few metres away from any moving tram, it's a massive chunk of moving metal, so give it a wide berth.

I'll have to assume you're not a regular commuter on it?!

I don't ride it every day but I use it enough. I never knew the Metrolink being a really good invention for the city was such a controversial opinion.

Me neither.

I use it everyday and it's great. Yes it gets packed sometimes but it's clean, comfortable and miles better than getting a bus. Imagine the City centre now without it; you can't. I remember before we had it and it was a pain in the arse.

A sad day. The Metrolink is one of the best things in Manchester and the drivers seem to be sensible when it comes to the public walking areas. I wonder what happened?
One of the best things about Manchester ???!!!
You are quite clearly mad.
RIP unnamed victim.

I have no answer to this.

To people who aren't so far up their own arse that they're singing Major Tom, the Metrolink is a cheap and reliable form of transport for the masses that connects many different parts of Greater Manchester together whilst running through the City of Manchester. I know that this might not be important for somebody who struggles to fit that pyramid shape into the square block like your therapist always wanted, but those of us who have relied on it for both work and social transportation, like I don't know, THE ETIHAD STADIUM, feel an affinity towards it.

Excellent!

I use the Metrolink nearly everyday and apart from there being a delay nearly once every week (last night apart), it's a fantastic mode of public transport. Easily better than buses.

It's not always terrible, but of all the great things in Manchester it's certainly not 'one of the best'!

Some top spec cars have sensors that don't allow you to go into the car in front. Couldn't this technology be added to these trams?

Alternatively, people could just watch where they're going.

How anyone can get run over by a 100m long train going at 3 miles an hour is beyond me.
With your username, you have to ask?.

I could be off my swede on special K and i'd still notice a big fuck off tram steaming towards me at walking pace.

They're using steam trams now...? So much for progress.
