Man for man

Those saying Baconface is better than Mancini have changed their tune a bit since the FA cup semi!!

Ffs this was just one game!

City have far better players individually
Mancini is a very good manager

Truth is some of our players underperformed on the same day as some of their players had a stunner (no idea where Cleverly's performance came from)

Galling as it was yday, I still wouldn't swap places with them!

I'd say only in central midfield do we have far better individual players than them, defence is comparible, as are the strikers (unless we keep tevez and aguero), they have far better wide players.

Yeah to say far better is pushing it bigtime. We really lack pace going forward and they knew it.So when they pushed up and pressed us we could not do much about it.We obviously could have retained posession much better than we did and I'm sure we will because De Jong and Toure both had bad games.I think Clicy will help give us more of an out ball with his pace once he starts playing but the key will obviously be Aguero. When Silva was getting on the ball yesterday he had no option to push anything through the middle or even out wide because Dzeko won't beat people for pace and mario although he is quick rarely runs at anyone, probably because he is too cool.

Only thing I can think of is there will to win was stronger than ours.
We really don't.

Hart> De Gea
Micah=/=Smalling (Tied: But smalling played better)
Evra> Kolarov/Clichy
Rio>Lescott
Vidic>Kompany
DeJong> Carrick
Yaya> Anderson (Even though Anderson played way better, and might just finally come thru on his potential)
Silva>Young
Nani>Milner
Rooney> Dzeko
Balotelli> Wellbeck (at least we hope. But Wellbeck seems more consistent)

Overall, they are a superior team, with better passers and movers off the ball. From 1 to 11 they have better ball passers except for Silva over Young. Hence they are far superior in that regard. Even De Gea is probably going to be the best distributor of the ball in the league from the GK position.

I agree with all them apart from I'd take Kompany over Vidic.

Re: Man for man

Better to compare the optimal starting 11s maybe, even though it is a squad game. IMO:

Hart > De Gea
Micah > Rafael
Evra > Kolarov/Clichy
Ferdinand > Lescott
Vidic = Kompany
De Jong > Carrick
Yaya > Fletcher
Silva > Young/Valencia
Nani > Barry (= Nasri?)
Rooney = Aguero
Hernandez > Balotelli (you can only go on performance, not potential)

City: 5
United: 4
Tied: 2

So it is very close man for man, even if you think Vidic is better than Kompany.

If you go beyond that, I think we have similar depth in defence (Smalling/Jones/Evans/Fabio vs. Kolo/Savic/Zabaleta/Boyata) but they probably have more midfield depth (Park, Giggs, Cleverley, Anderson) and variety. I'm not sure about attack, it probably comes down to Dzeko/Guidetti vs. Berbatov/Welbeck if Tevez is leaving and there isn't much between them.

They played better. They won. Its not difficult.

You and others will drive yourselves mad with the 'will to win' or 'better manager' or 'Mario is to blame' or whatever seed of doubt has wormed its way into your head and is now hacking away through your medulla oblongata as we speak.

Deep breaths and glass or two of red will do the trick.
Can't drink red wine gives me heartburn.

Re: Man for man

this is exactly what i said to the person sat next to me, the only thing i can think of is that i massively underrate their players :s

Re: Man for man

Ferguson is much better than Mancini.

He played with 6 fast, skillful, intelligent players ( Nani,Young,Rooney,Anderson,Evra & Welbeck) while we only had 3 ( Silva, Balotelli & Yaya ) and none of them could do much in the game.

We gave them space and time to do whatever they want, while they were pressing on us all the game.

They were agressive in their approach to the game while we were too precautions.

Several of the threads this morning are depressingly predictable. Some people on here are naive, ignorant morons. The hypocrisy is suffocating. Mancini was viewed to be walking on water by many people at the end of last season. Then we have one loss on a reasonably large stage, and the knives come out. It is misplaced, childish emotion. If we had been beaten by Chelsea yesterday there would have been at least 50% less vitriol being posted on here.

Yesterday's facts are simple:
1. City, collectively, had a bad day at the office
2. United were DESPERATE to beat us - absolutely desperate
3. We were over-run in midfield - an area where we usually dominate
4. Kompany made a mistake, not help by Clichy, that he will not make again

One loss and suddenly the jury is out on Mancini again. It makes me sick. OF COURSE FERGUSON IS A BETTER MANAGER THAN MANCINI. He is a better manager than pretty much anybody else in world football. Mancini's career in English football is less than two years old.

For those individuals jumping down Mancini's throat I suggest that you have never managed anything in your lives, and just stand around like sheep waiting to be led. And then complain about it if it isn't exactly as you imagined.

For those ready to shoot down Mancini after this one match: call yourself a blue? Shame on you.

Excellent post.

Well said.

As great (spit) as ferguson has been it took him years to mould a team capable of winning honours in England, our Bob did it in his first full season.

You also have to consider the pressure he is under, he does not have the luxury of being given time to build an attractive team, he simply has to get results or will lose his job.

Re: Man for man

They are more fitter and have more pace than us...SORT IT!!!!!!!!!!

Somebody said exactly the same to me coming home last night.

I think better in this case is classified as Fergi staying there much longer!!

I don't think with 10 posts you should be coming on here slagging people off mate. Try doing that in local boozer and you're likely to get a slap.

You're out of order Chippylad, LeKoa pretty much nailed yesterday's game and the reaction to it (despite him only having 10 previous posts....as you were so keen to point out). I have been a regular on here and various other footy fora for quite a few years, yet dont feel the necessity to validate any point I may wish to raise by displaying triumphantly a post-count in the tens of thousands. The fact that I actually "have a life" outside of the internet has denied me a less-than-phallic post-count on any web-site but it does not make my point any less valid than some gob-shite with 10 posts a day for the last 10 years does it?.

BTW - to all the lads and lasses outside the Greyhound yesterday...good work.

Re: Man for man

our best performers were below par, its that simple-

Hart conceded 3 goals

Kompany made an uncharacteristic defensive error

Yaya was unusually quite in midfield

Silva was absent from the game for periods of play

Tevez wasn't there

We need to take it to the next level now, lets hope the boys can up their game.

Re: Man for man

How can you be certain we have better players though? If we have then we should be kicking the shit out of them on a regular basis. Let's fucking hope that's the last time the do us for many a day.
you have to remember even when we were genuinely a poor team yo yoing up and down we still beat them quite often which suggests a lack of motivation to me.
As quite a few have pointed out it was a only a friendly, yet try as I might I can't bring myself to believe that. Cunts!
