Its disgraceful given the way Bernardo was treated for an almost identical,if not lesser,'offence'.Seemingly precedents can be ignored accordingly.

Getting away from that though,Cavani will hopefully be a good but, ultimately, blunt test for our defenders.
It wasn’t almost identical FI. He thought someone looked similar to a cartoon character, whereas Cavani used the N word, one was miles worse than the other, but that’s the one that will go unpunished

While they play a day earlier than us this midweek (tonight), their game has a lot more riding on it than our CL game tomorrow. They haven't even qualified yet for the R16 in Champions League and could even fall into Europa League depending on how that group goes ... With PSG, RB Leipzeg and that lot all on 9 pts each, I guess anyone can finish in any of the top three places and what's worst for them is they are away in Germany ... so not sure if that one day extra over us is any advantage now which could have been significant had it been the other way around.

More pre-match thoughts after our Wednesday's game ...

In the meanwhile here are some Premier League stats to kick-start those pre-match thoughts ...

On a side note: please do suggest if you guys find these useful and if any more info should be added to these Pre-Match and Ref Appointments etc. ... I aim to start these threads as Ref Appointments while other games are pending ahead (like Marseille one this time) and then perhaps rename these to Pre-Match Threads and add the poll after the next game is done, as even though they start with Refs discussion, they all inevitably turn into Pre-Match discussions anyway.

EDIT: Ooops, just seen the other Pre-Match thread already going (how come that before the other game? because I have been told off for that in the past) ... anyway, mods, please merge this with that one I guess.

Referee Bio

Chris Kavanagh became a Select Group 1 referee for the 2017/18 season after working his way up the football pyramid.

The Manchester-born referee started officiating in 1998 as a 13-year-old, plying his trade in local football, before being promoted to take charge of matches in the National League in 2012.

Kavanagh refereed in the Football League regularly from the 2014/15 season and in 2016/17 he was the man in the middle on 27 occassions for the EFL Championship campaign.

Prior to his promotion to Select Group 1 status, Kavanagh made his Premier League debut in April 2017 as West Bromwich Albion lost to Southampton 1-0 at The Hawthorns, while he has been fourth official in the top flight on a number of occasions.

Kavanagh was also the fourth official for the League One Play-off Final between Scunthorpe United and Millwall at Wembley at the end of the 2016/17 season.

I think that this one is almost a must win if we are going to challenge for the PL this season. If we win we are within touching distance of the top. If we turn up we are capable of beating anyone but I'm not overly confident for this game unless we are clinical with our chances.

Hopefully the rags will lose tonight, not progress in the CL and be demoralised for our game!
