I dont think we'll do anything drastically different to what we've been doing, I just hope we are more aware of their threat on the counter. We managed to nullify the Liverpool threat pretty well and they're a much better team than the rags.

I have a feeling the first goal is going to be huge in this one.

Predicted team:

Ederson

Walker
Stones
Dias
Cancelo

Rodri
Gundogan
KDB

Sterling
Jesus
Mahrez

May as well start this now as it's only a week away and the Marseille game is inconsequential.

I'm guessing midweek we'll see the players who weren't involved against Fulham and then at the weekend it'll be pretty much back to the XI that started today.

Really need to put a marker down here.
This is a bit shit, where's mags opening post with all the match details ?

I can't remember the last time we won a big game against a supposed top four/five rival for a while?

It's been the difference between us winning leagues and not in recent years.

United have every reason to feel confident because they have adapted their set up to combat a system which does not change under Pep.

We will always control the ball, but whether our big players turn up is another matter.

Hope Foden gets to start rather than one of Rodri or Gundo.

Fern has to start for me. So Gundo has to step down as we need Plodri's height.

I'd also like to see Berni or Phil in for Mahrez on the basis of a high press.

The key is in putting away chances to make them go out of their shell. They are a dangerous side when counterattacking with space, loads of chances created in recent games. I still don't trust my compatriot Mendy, I would play Cancelo instead. I hope Stones turns up, it would really confirm he's back.

I hope that prediction is wrong.

The thing with United though is that that always have several massive clangers in their locker. They look great for a while and then suddenly drop a 3/10 performance like they did in Istanbul. Their quality will keep them up there no doubt but they have little chance of the title.

This scared me :( They are a supped up Wolves. They have a stat about how they win more when they have less possession. And how they are better on the road. Probably from having less possession band countering the home team.

We really need to play at our best. I would want Walker for this one. Perhaps Ake on the left

Yep - a souped up Wolves is spot on.

And is exactly what we don’t want to make them look like - because if we let them play that game, there’s only going to be one winner!

They will have no shame sitting back at the Swamp and playing like the away side - no fans to get in their ear for being so unambitious - as this suits their game.

Full backs will be key - you’re right. And whilst there’s an argument for forcing theirs to actually do some defending (which they are shit at) by hitting them down the flanks with Cancelo and Mendy, that would leave us open to the counter - which is my greatest concern.

Ake and Walker has a much more solid look about it - although Cancelo has become a key part of our attacking set up against the bigger teams with his movement and vision when we’re pushing forward, so I can’t see Pep dropping him.

The general consensus on here is they are shit. We should be beating them although Peps recent record against them is shocking. Need a win ,end of.
I wish that were true but they clearly aren’t shit. They’re above us in the PL for a start and, as you say, up their game when playing us.

The rags are actually quite similar to us at the moment in that they look both dreadful and brilliant in the same game. We are similar but it's often different halves. One half great, the other not so great.

People mock the rags a lot but they are the closest to matching us as they've been for a few years. This is mainly due to us losing world class players like Silva and Kompany and being in a bit of a rebuilding phrase at the moment.

I think they just have the edge going into this game as their direct style and finishing will be more effective than our possession based one and profligacy in front of goal. Derbies are notoriously hard to call though and I pray all our big players show up and click and we thrash the buggers!

The look likely to score when they go forward and we don’t , hope our defence can hold out.

last seasons trip to the swamp was a shambles

If we put our chances away we're in with a good chance of winning, we need to contain fernandez and rashford, I think there the danger men, and cut out the counter attacks

Far too much fear among City fans in this thread, based on the last few "freak" derbies.

Last year our weaknesses played to United's strengths: we were subsceptible to quick breaks through channel balls after our attacks broke down. It was the only way United could play. Also, they rose their luck like mad for maybe the last 4 derbies.

This season we have mostly shored up that problem. Also, they cannot keep fluking results against us.

We will beat them and I predict quite confortably.

Apart from Leicester game, we were never dreadful this season, and the rags are far from been brilliant, just doing their smash and grab tactics.

When do we look dreadful. Every game i've seen us play this season we have dominated games only to be let down by individual poor defending on occasions.

The dreadful bit was more in references to the rags, Brighton away in particular and periods against West Ham. We have dropped off significantly in some games, Leeds and Wolves in particular after dominating quite a lot at the start.
