I’ve never understood the notion of Pep not being interested in playing United. Do you really think he goes into derby games thinking ‘nah, can’t be arsed today boys’.

Not plausible to me. He knows damn well how important a Manchester derby is. If he makes offhand comments it's just mind games, imo. On the other hand, I hope he sets us up right. We know as sure as night follows day that it's going to be long balls over the top for Rashford to run on to.

Our record at Old Trafford is pretty good in recent years. We've won 4 of the last six there. I know we lost the last one, but our back four that day was Cancelo, Fernandinho, Otamendi, Zinchenko which goes some way to explaining it. We're far stronger defensively now. The other defeat was when we played the kids in the League Cup in 2016.

Can't be right, Pep doesn't care about the derby and always plays a weakened team...

And as crap as that defence was it was still a couple of Ederson brain farts that they had to rely on to get the win.

Any win will do, but I want to smash them.

Cant help feeling that the key player will be on the bench though, Ferny.

Honestly can't call this. Leipzig should have hammered then but it ended up very close in the end. If we don't take our chances I can see us drawing or losing.

With the way they have been coming from behind recently it may be best to go all gun blazing first 15 minutes, grab a goal then drop the back line 20 yards and sit back.

There is next to no chance they will create anything if we have 10 behind the ball and we are brilliant on the counter the rare occasions we get to show it, so play them at their own game.
Leipzig did hammer them. It was only the officials who made it close

Anyone worried thumping them will mean the sack for Ole?
I really don’t want him to go.
He’s been brilliant for us.
I think he’s on his final warning after their CL debacle and if we hammer them it will be game over for him.
A squeaky 0-1 will probably keep him in the job a bit longer.
For once I find myself not wanting to annihilate the bastards which also feels wrong...
Thump the b*stards. No holding back. No excuses. Don't worry about Ole, it doesn't matter which manager drives the bus, that grotty club won't succeed while the present owners and the present structure is in place. The club is a glorified ATM for the Glazers, that's all they are bothered about. And if they do get new owners someday, Ole will be gone before you can say 'leaky stadium roof'.

Yeah but United were still a late save away from getting a draw, that's my point. Despite how often they get completely outplayed recently they seem to keep the result close.

We need to be ruthless and not let them or the refs give them any way back into the game once we are ahead.

We should still be expecting to give them a game even if we went like this, just shows the strength we have when fit.

Bad feeling about tomorrow's game. There's 179 billion bottom lips being dragged along the ground since the CL exit and nothing would lift their spirits like a victory over us. Let's face it, it's not a matter of whether or not they receive assistance, it's a matter of how much they receive. That's what I've come to expect with football.

City/United Combined XI:

Ederson
Walker
Dias
Laporte
Cancelo
Fernandinho
Bernardo
De Bruyne
Sterling
Torres
Aguero

That lovely bloke Bruno defo scoring with a (3 times re-taken) penner

This is very interesting to read about the forthcoming game and indeed our season so far:

This bit will raise a few eyebrows for sure -

Things have also changed directly in front of the defence, where Guardiola has increasingly trusted Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan to play as a double pivot. That pairing was unpopular last season among City supporters, who were used to seeing Fernandinho anchoring a more attack-minded midfield, but City’s defensive record with Rodri and Gundogan is hard to ignore.
The partnership is still in its infancy as a double pivot - Rodri and Gundogan have only played alongside each other in a 4-2-3-1 shape eight times over the last year - but in those games, City have conceded just three goals and only 13 shots on target against the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and two meetings with Liverpool.
Guardiola played Rodri and Gundogan together at the base of midfield for the first time this season when Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a 1-1 draw on their visit to the Etihad last month. It may well be that this is now Guardiola’s big-game midfield or simply his first-choice full stop. He persisted with them against Olympiakos, Burnley and Fulham and City kept three clean sheets.
