Manchester’s Changing Skyline

Seen this slightly bizarre response to this tower on 'Twit...X'...

He’s right! We don’t want a 76 storey tower, we want a 100 storey tower. :-)

Hoping to get into town early on Sunday morning to do a construction roundup before the Spurs match. Depends if I can stay off the beer on Saturday night or at least drink in moderation.

The Manchester skyline is starting to look very impressive and dense. Will look even better with the proposed addition of Viadux 2 - 76 fl/240 metres. Viadux 2 will sit in the gap in-between Axis and Viadux 1.

I'll see you and raise you

One architectural firm, two developers.

There are lots of fine developers in Manchester as there are lots of fine architects but there seem to be two engaged in a race to the top, almost as a competition, Renaker Build and Salboy. Renaker is way ahead at the moment with Deansgate Square and the Greengate Cluster in Salford but Salboy are beginning to make an impression.

Viadux Phase One is 136m (446ft) and the St Michael’s development is taking shape which will include the W Hotel & Residences at 144m (443ft). If everything goes well Viadux Phase Two will snatch the title of the 'King of Manchester Towers' for Salboy and Fred Done.

May we expect Renaker to announce in the not too distant future a tower of 90 storeys?

Your move Mr Whittaker.

Let’s see who’s got the biggest.

Hope so don't want the Done family lording it...

I think the next logical step if Viadux 2 is ever to be topped, is a 250 metres tower.

It will be interesting to see if Gary Neville and Relentless Developments
can sell the £6mill penthouse apartment at St Michael’s. Penthouse apartment figures like that are associated with London, Honk Kong, New York, etc, not Manchester.

Relentless Developments and Salboy are inviting offers for 217 W Residences within the £400m St Michael’s scheme, with prices starting at £350,000.

At £6m, the most expensive apartment within the 41-storey Manchester development has been given a price tag that is more than double anything else currently on the market in Manchester city centre.

According to Savills’s website, the next most expensive apartment on the market currently is £2.5m in Renaker’s Deansgate Square.

TBH I’m not a fan of Square Gardens. Over development. Bog standard design. The glass cladding pattern is too repetitive.

The contractor/developer has reached the 45-storey mark on Acer Tower, the highest point of its 1,300-home Square Gardens scheme at First Street.

Consultation.

Any idea how do they design the HVAC in these apartments in the UK ? Central plant or individual (owned by owner) split system ducted ? That's what they do here these days, all condensing units are positioned in a large services riser and hidden by louvres or cantilever glass.

Not worked on anything near this big. But would imagine its heated by rads and fairly basic/standard services.
Spoke to one of Renakers main Electrical contractors today, he/they said Renaker are asking for confirmation on how many projects/ what turnover/how many operatives they are comfortable with, reading between the lines it seems Renaker are going to go again big, and bold. I'm sure @Worsleyweb will know more..
