Another myth, who was Newton Heath LYR's 1st ever game against??
Nice easy question to answer, & then compare it to what your Museum has hawked around as the date of your birth.

Why are most things relating to City given the date 1894 ? I believe its from the time we were officially named Manchester City.
Why is it claimed that Manchester United were formed in 1878 when in fact they were officially formed in 1902 ? 1903 ?.
This is what your Museum, your Fans forums, your club would have us believe.
I also understand that Newton Heath had its basis in OLDHAM.
Here's a nice easy question for you............Who was Manchester Uniteds first game against ?
Wonder how many other clubs claim to have been formed before they actually were ?????

well if it's by boundaries we go by, then it should be like the other guy said

Greater manchester united

greater manchester wanderers

greater manchester athletic (maybe)

just goes to show how much united want to be part of manchester but after 100 years..are still not good enough....or manc enough.

Some MMU students did a study and found that a far higher proportion of City's season ticket holders were from Greater Manchester addresses than United's were. This is all online somewhere. It isn't a myth.

Dr Adam Brown, a United fan and one of the founders of FC Utd, did the research but there are a lot of flaws in it. His basic findings claimed that a higher proportion of people living in the postcodes he used in his study were utd season ticket holders than City season ticket holders. This was based on 2001-02 season ticket holders when (according to the material) City had 16,481 season ticket holders (not true - at that time City had c.25,000) and Utd had 27,667 (also not true).

I explored the same material for "Manchester A Football History" and made other conclusions, most notably that east Manchester is predominantly blue and west predominantly red, but read the text on pages 493-498 to get the full picture.
