Manchester Airport police assault trial | Man found guilty of assaulting two female police officers

It seems that one of the jury is off their holidays tomorrow and has been discharged. The trial was always scheduled to last at least three weeks, so it seems ridiculous that they allowed that person on the jury to start with. Presuming that they told them, which they would have been asked.

Not sure if that means they are down to 11, or if for these long trials they have a couple of spares listening to all the evidence incase anyone drops out?

If it were me I’d arm all airport police…..wouldn’t of even got to court, saving the tax payer a few quid.

There is a good case for arming all police. We do not live in the quaint society of yesteryear. We live in a place that is full of genuinely dangerous and frequently armed people.

freind did jury service last a couple of years ago. Drug dealer kidnapper bang to rights. One juror flat out said she'll go not guilty because she 'hates the cops'. Second woman going not guilty 'cos she fancied the accused.

Two were proper armed but not all carry tasers, a bit like the guy with the sword who killed the young lad and attacked police had they had tasers he would’ve been down in minutes. For me all should be armed with tasers now.

Had one on the jury I was on that was a prison visitor and seemingly thought everyone caught breaking the law should be given another chance.

We sent them down 11-1 in the end but that was largely due to it being a Friday and one or two didn’t want to come back for a second week. I felt a bit sorry for the accused as although I was convinced they were guilty I don’t think all the jurors were giving it their full attention and we were probably split 8-4 and should have gone back to the court with that.

I think at least one of them had a taser but imo it’s not a proper deterrent…..I think all airport police should carry firearms. I’m pretty sure there would have been no bother if the officers in question all had handguns ..

I would not believe that. Both if reported to the judge would receive a custodial 6 months as the trial would have to be re tried.

One of em failed to turn up, citing covid and rest were 10/1 for guilty, which the judge ruled was good enough.

It could be a 12 Angry Men scenario,with a lone Henry Fonda type figure pleading the innocence of these two thugs, vainly trying to convince the rest of the jury that he is right.
( Although thinking about it, Henry Fonda and co. didn't have CCTV to provide irrefutable evidence in 1957).
