Manchester City fans are becoming embarrassing.

Sorry D.D. i dont disagree with a lot of what you say but if i had slagged off Bell Lee Buzzer our best players some years ago or even some of our fringe players the way this lot do at a game i would have died on the Kippax in short get my kin ed kicked in

That's just sepia-tinged nostalgic rubbish mate, with respect.

I tell you now there was a damn sight more moaning back in the day, not less. Now I started going in 76 so I can't comment on before that, but back then the likes of Joe Corrigan and Paul Power had there lives made a misery for them by the crowd - and we were top of the league. The team would be booed off at half time and fulltime, and the "Main STand Moaners" were a standing joke at City. My Dad tells me they were just as vociferious the season we won the league.

In the 80s and 90s, the ground was a foaming sea of nastiness many matchdays. Everyone moaned - it was part of the club culture. The players were scared to play at home. There were demos outside the Main STand. We called for the Chairman's HEad. We called for the manager's head. We called for players to be sacked and told them they weren't fit to wear the shirt.

It's a walk in the park these days. There have always been a few idiots, like at any big City club, but the vast majority are hugely supportive. I honestly think forums have skewed people's perepective on this.

I agree with Dave, HOWEVER, I doubt anyone can beat this pearler from Sunday.

I had to relocate from 217 and found myself near some right moaning c*nts in EL2. About 20 minutes in and Silva cuts in from the right and shoots over with his left. Knobhead behind me pipes up:

"And THAT'S why you're not first choice for Spain!"

I didn't know whether to laugh or twat him.

posts based purely on assumption made by people who weren't at the match about people that they couldn't therefore actually hear (much like many of us who were at the game) probably aren't very helpful ;-)

Bloke in front of us looks like a fat Malcolm Allison.

Last season he roars "Tevez you lazy bastard"

What next? "Get stuck in De Jong yer soft ****"?

It's gone on for donkey's years at football, always has, always will.

The abuse, by and large, is negligable compared to the past mate. The last open hostility at City was the substitution of Tevez about 4 months ago. Oh, and the odd half-arsed boo at half and full time when we play shit.

I've been at Maine Road and the whole crowd would be booing, angrily and nastily.

It's fine these days, honestly.

Edghill's treatment against Coventry is the one that really springs to mind.

That was evil.

That was nasty and I didn't like it at all. Summerbee got it fucking awful too. Was it Andy Dibble once let two howlers in and got subbed at half time? Kit Symons got abused - they all did. In our "Glory Days" in division 2 when we all "rallied together" our assistant manager wrote a piece in the paper urging our fans to stop barracking them all. John Bond - hit with coins and eggs at Brighton. Alan Ball had the piss ripped out of him by everyone.

I could go on and on. These days it's a teddy bear's picnic and no different to any other big City club.

-- Tue Feb 22, 2011 5:18 pm --

It's all relative, mate. An underperforming team is an underperforming team, whether top of the premier league or bottom of the third division.

A shock for me to read a Didsbury post I 100% agree with.

This is exactly my experience of watching City over the years. I well remember the stick we gave Power before he left for everton. Understandably in many ways, City's fans were very disillusioned in the 80s and 90s.

City fans showed their true colours in the late 90s when the club needed them, but we were renowned before them to be the away teams best asset. Frustrate City for 20 mins and turn the crowd on the players. Happened week after week
