Manchester sold itself to Abu Dhabi’s elite - Guardian article

Loved Scottish Alex in the cross keys, crazy as hell
Do you remember the landlord from the late 70s early 80s. Bald fellow with a tache ( maybe Italian descent and maybe called Joe) and very forthright. I went in a few times with my older brother, who used all the town pubs, and a lot of journalists went in there. I spoke a few times to Frank Mcgee there and others I just can't remember. Proper old school journalists not the clickbait writers of today. Also the Cheshire Cheese around 1970/ 74 was enjoyable and a good landlord.

I’m still patiently waiting for one of the Queen’s horses to win a race and read all the articles about how state owned horses are ruining flat racing.

I won’t hold my breath though because I’ve barely heard a peep about sports washing in the 30 years that Godolphin have been virtually single handedly running the game.

Remember the Cheshire Cheese well. Was an old Chester’s pub.

The old Chester's bitter, never drank it preferred the mild at that time. I remember all the Chester's pubs along and around Ashton Old Road getting done for watering the beer down in the 60's including a couple I drank in.
PS. Now City are in the area some people think they have revived the art in the stadium;-)

Well, it's the Grauniad isn't it. What would you expect. Terrible newspaper.

Mentioned it to my 87 year old Mum. She told me her grandad wouldn’t have ‘that rag’ in the house, even when it was the Manchester Guardian. We are a very ordinary working class family. She said it was the only time she ever heard him swear. I’ll add my view which is that it is a shit stirring rag written by ultra liberal upper middle class twats. Readership is only around 200k so not a major player. Read Polly Toynbee’s wiki if you want a laugh. Got one A level and a full scholarship to Oxford based on her Dad and Grandad who were famous historians. She left after one year as she (predictably) couldn’t keep up with the work. In my book, that’s a coveted place stolen from some working class kid who could have actually done something with it.
