Manchester sold itself to Abu Dhabi’s elite - Guardian article

Sportswashing isn’t a thing.

Nobody gave a shit shout UAE before Sheikh Mansour took over City. The worst thing that UAE did for its own image was start to draw attention to itself.

If they hadn’t bothered, nobody would give a shit about the place still.

Plus this isn’t anything to do with sport, it’s real estate. and it appears that Manchester City Council are painted in the worst light here since they’re the ones who sold these plots for under the going rate. Mansour didn’t hold a gun to MCC’s head and force them to sell it all at those prices.

UAE sponsor UAE Team Emirates one of the top teams in pro cycling. I have never heard or read about sport washing in cycling. Why just football ?

If people could be arsed to not focus their research on more than just the deal with ADUG they would notice the council gave tonnes of land away to first manchester to build on and have sold.land below value a few times in places no investor has been interested in at market value.

The have finally now told first to fuck off as they are asking fo a fair few million to help with the renovations around the ground, but previously willfully give them handouts.

Ask a resident in the places mentioned and they will tell you they ain't arsed about this, but are glad the area(s) are now improved and have new life, or are all the new buainesses around ancoats and the run down mills now repurposed and used. Or if the new arena and 38 leisiure businesses planned not welcome because a few academics in Sheffield wrote a paper on it

the guy who did the study is on talksport now, and hes getting his arse slapped by the 3 presenters

edit

he was getting no joy out of the presenters, so started dropping sportswashing , wonder who paid for this "investigation"

Wonder when these weasels do an article on FSG dirty dealings and especially Standard Chartered who a matter fact are a sport washing company who have been done for it!

Interesting response from the council at the end of this article.

The council added the Manchester Life developments had “acted as a catalyst, creating confidence and attracting further investment into the area” and had paved the way for new homes and business, generating “significantly more for the city in extra council tax and business rates income”.
