Hello Gary,

I have a query about 2 old City players and wonder if you could help? I am reading a WW1 book called "Cheerful Sacrifice- The Battle of Arras" by Jonathan Nicholls (written in 1990). On page 58 he quotes a soldier from 9th Royal Scots, 4 Platoon who was serving in the 51st Highland Division. Apparently this platoon was very keen on football. The soldier writes, "We had Bill and Jimmy Broad, 2 brothers who were professional footballers with Manchester City - that made the 9th Royal Scots the best team in the division."
I have checked the list of players in your "History of Manchester City" book and there is a T H Broad mentioned at that period, but the initials don't tie in with Bill or Jimmy. Can you shed any light on this?

John - also got your tweet. I'll send you a DM. Thanks

EDITED ON 16th AUGUST TO SAY:

For all those interested "Manchester The City Years" is now available from the National Football Museum shop and should be on sale at the City Store on Sunday. Waterstones Deansgate will have it on Tuesday (I'm talking there at 6.30pm).

For anyone wondering what the book looks like, I've posted some sample pages and the dustjacket at: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150796330997816.396386.289818652815&type=3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 815&type=3</a>

There's also a mechanism for ordering it on Bluemoon's new history section - that routes through to Amazon who, despite what they say on their site, should have the book by end of this week.
Just finished reading this great book

Re: On sale now - Manchester The City Years

Quick reminder - my publisher has put the text from 2009-2012 available via Amazon for the kindle for a special price of 99p until end of Saturday.

If you want to read about City's 3rd League title get it while it's on offer: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-The-City-Years-2009-2012-ebook/dp/B00C2Y2LZ4/ref=pd_cp_kinc_1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-The- ... _cp_kinc_1</a>

Odd copies of the full book still occasionally appear but it looks like it's out of print. I know my publisher has none left. Always worth checking here: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-The-City-Years-2009-2012-ebook/dp/B00C2Y2LZ4/ref=pd_cp_kinc_1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-The- ... _cp_kinc_1</a>

Thanks.

For all those interested "Manchester The City Years" is now available as a text only kindle edition covering the full history of the Blues up to the 2012 title success: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City-Years-1857-2012-Text-ebook/dp/B00M74AHNW/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1406568490&sr=1-3&keywords=manchester+the+city+years#_" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City ... ty+years#_</a>

I've had people asking for it since it came out, so I'm delighted a text version can now be downloaded via amazon. Hope people are interested. If you want to know what the book includes take a look at the free 'look inside' section where the Contents are listed. Thanks.

My publisher has put it on offer today - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City-Years-1857-2012-Text-ebook/dp/B00M74AHNW/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1410870490&sr=1-1&keywords=manchester+the+city+years" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City ... city+years</a>

An offer on the kindle edition - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City-Years-1857-2012-Text-ebook/dp/B00M74AHNW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415998978&sr=8-1&keywords=Manchester+the+City+years" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City ... City+years</a> goes up every day until it reaches it's regular price. Get it as cheap as you can.

I don't think many Blues know that the opening 76 pages up to the year 1900 of my book "Manchester The City Years" can be read here for free: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City-Years-1857-2012-Text-ebook/dp/B00M74AHNW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421763733&sr=8-1&keywords=manchester+the+city+years#reader_B00M74AHNW" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-City ... B00M74AHNW</a> All you need to do to read it is use the Look Inside feature of the amazon site and start reading.

This covers the birth of the club as St Mark's, the trials and tribulations that followed, the transformation into Ardwick AFC, on to MCFC's formation and up to the club's first promotion. It' s well worth having a read if you want to know how MCFC came to be born and what the formative steps were. This was published in 2012 but the material s as relevant today as it was then. If you like that section (using the Look Inside function on Amazon) then why not download the full book?

The opening section of my Mercer biog is also available like this via: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joe-Mercer-OBE-Football-Smile-ebook/dp/B00AFDGZD8/ref=sr_1_1_twi_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421767956&sr=8-1&keywords=joe+mercer+football+with+a+smile" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joe-Mercer-OBE- ... th+a+smile</a> That takes you through to his first successes as an Everton player. Cheers
