just spent a fair while reading their forum after this post, and having done so, I dont agree with you - even taking into account location of supporters (not that that matters)
Their forum tends to be populated by “fans” from far and wide. The exact type of fan I’m saying buys in to the Liverpool myth.

Going off Mancunian based reds I know personally, none of them use their forum, and none of them want City to win the league.

My cousin who is based in a different part of Manchester has observed exactly the same thing - his red mates are all desperate to beat us on Wednesday.

In my experience, the “Liverpool are our biggest rivals” is a line trotted out by Mancunian reds to wind up City fans.

Don’t get me wrong, I know there’s no love lost between The Shite and the Scousers.

But for the majority or reds who live, work and have close family and friends who are blues, City winning the league would grate them far more than Liverpool in real life. On their forum it’s a whole different kettle of fish.

Having come from a family of reds, I would say this was broadly correct, my mum apart, who’s only doing so out of loyalty to me.

My old man is willing Liverpool to win the league. Watched the Palace game with him the other day and it reminded me when I watched the Palace v Liverpool 3-3 in 2014 with him too. I went mental when the third Palace goal went in. Knew we’d won the title at that point. He was sick as a dog at the end of that game. It made the evening all the sweeter!

This is my experience too.

And friends with different groups of red mates based in Manchester are all saying exactly the same.

This “Liverpool are United’s biggest rivals” shite is a complete myth for actual Mancunian based reds.

It’s a myth invented by Sky and peddled out by cockerney reds and fairweather fans from around the country and abroad.

Make no mistake, the vast majority inside Old Trafford will be baying for our blood on Wednesday night.

Spot on. They hate the scousers but they hate us more. The bigger rivals thing started in our wilderness years as we never competed with them for trophies, half the time we weren't even in the same division. On the bus back into town this season after the 3-1 all six of the pricks could go on about was them stopping us winning the league in the 2-3. Believe me they desperately want to beat us.

I'm staying off most of social media and definitely sly sports and the radio until kick off time. They just wind you like a clock and if we lose you snap even more.

I was in a pub in Manchester watching us play the dippers in the Carabao Cup final and when the dippers scored ALL the rags in the pub jumped up and celebrated.

This encapsulates what I’m saying perfectly.

When they have time to think, they’ll trot out the snarky, patronising “Liverpool are our biggest rivals” line.

But when it’s an involuntary explosion of true emotion, like a goal, they can’t hide their true feelings.

They hate us. They hate us like no other. They hate us so much they actually have to pretend to hate someone else more, just so we don’t realise how much they hate us.

I was in a bar in Tenerife when we beat Liverpool 2-1 this season. A big group of rags was sat near me from north Manchester. All through the game they were giving it the "We'd rather you won " bollocks and giving those little snippets of conversation that didn't really mask their hatred of us. When Liverpool scored everyone of them jumped up. Then it was all, " I think they'll go on to win it now." Did I celebrate Sane's goal and the final whistle!

This is sooo true. They are still trying to belittle little Citeh by pretending they care more about Liverpool. And what's worse, it should be Arsenal/Chelsea/SPurs they hate, maybe Everton soon as they're not close to either us or Dippers. So they might pretending it's them who they care more about too.

It's City who detroned them. It's City who pushed Liverpool to where they are now. It's City who they all hate the most. Take the media bias for dippers out and each of rags, dippers, spurs, arsenal will hate us the most. As we were the ones who destroyed the old order. It's us who stopped Rags, it's us who pushed arsenal out of top 4, it's us who stopped liverpool winning the league after 25 years, it's us who probably stopped SPurs winning something so far as team who they got cheaply would be enough to win it if we haven't pushed others to spend. Well us and Leicester for Spurs, lol-
