Manchester United (h) pre-match thread

Talking to a rag yesterday and as much as he was looking forward to the match when I reminded him we had hit six in our last 2 games he was worried we would do so on Sunday!

American forecast site Five Thirty Eight ran an extensive forecast of the USA midterms last month. They arrived at the conclusion the Democrats would gain 39 seats in Congress, and the Republicans two seats in the Senate. On the night, the forecasts fluctuated wildly. At one point it was a toss up if the Democrats gained any majority at all.

By the end of the night, it looked like the numbers would be D +21 Congress seats, R + 6 (i think) Senate seats.

Now the dust has settled, and making allowances for the probable (and probably not going to change the result) recounts, the final tally looks like it will be; D + 39 Congress seats, R + 2 Senate seats.

In other words, the exact forecast Five Thirty Eight offered in the week before the election.

They also do a line in sports forecasts. They have us with an 80% chance of winning, United 7%, and 14% for the draw.

In truth, any team in the Prem can win on a given day. However, if Manure bring their A-game (whatever that is), and we bring our C-game, we'll still be the best team on the pitch by a distance - whatever the result. I've a hunch that Manure will try and be unpredictable and do what doesn't come naturally to 'em - i.e. start the game with a ten minute flurry in the hope that they nick one before parking the bus. But if they have a go we'll have to exploit that space. One thing's a definite - during Manure's rare attacks, they'll be going sideways across the box looking for free kicks and diving.

I truly hope Manure have a go - would suit us down to the ground - we'll use that space to destroy 'em. If they go with their normal game and park the bus we'll have to keep knocking on the door.

We can be hard to read as well - like when Eddie launches it up the pitch with laser accuracy after 30 minutes of possession football.

Mind games only have a chance of working if the person you're directing your comments towards cares in the slightest what you do.

City will impose our game onto them, they can worry about our players, not the other way around,
Agreed, if I supported a team playing us, I would be seriously nervous now. We now have an aura about us - a bit like how we'd feel if we were playing Barca.

Quite amusing seeing Jose attempting his ‘mind games’ floating that Pogba and Sanchez might not play. Does he honestly think Pep will have sleepless nights about whoever plays for them? Just another dated boring tactic from 10 years ago for him
This is reverse psychology. He wants Pep to think two of his shittiest players will be out so we'll have a much harder game.

Unlikely, big clubs with great histories such as MANCHESTER UNITED never concede six goals against Derby rivals

There seems to be a lot of arrogance on this thread. We play the better brand of football and Utd have had an indifferent start to the season but they are an effective team and you dont go to Jve and win without being a well organised and strong team (the got a bit of luck but every team gets that at points).
Make no mistake they can hurt us and we need to be at the top of our game. The pace of Martial is a danger and as much as we deride Pogba, some of it deservedly (who will play make no mistake about it), he has the attributes to hurt us with late runs into the box and being decent in the air as well. Even int he also few games we have won handsomely we have given up chances to the likes of Burnely, Southampton and Shaktar that the likes of Martial and pogba as well as Sanchez will take advantage of.

I think its more dangerous for us if Lukaku doesn't play as well..they are more mobile without him and will try to get in behind us more.

Of course we can hurt them but PEG will see his team up to play very defensively and hope to get us with set plays and breakaways...any free kicks around the box or around the wide areas we need to be very cautious of.

Why cannot people have a bit of optimism without being called out as arrogant. Sure they have dangers, but generally have been shit and
VERY VERY lucky. I'm a City fan so try and look on the positives of MY side. I'n not saying you aren't by BTW.
Just gets on my tits when people come on calling out other City fans for what they say and then go on to big up the
opponent as much as possible.
