Manchester Xmas market thread

Going to see James at the Arena on 3rd December so will no doubt have a bit of a wander around it then.
It wasn't on last year for obvious reasons and I didn't go at all in 2019 so this will be the first time in 3 years I'll have gone so I'm actually quite looking forward to it.

Got the train in yesterday ( from Warrington) had breakfast couple of beers went match and walked back to town enjoyed the walk round Market stalls especially on king St had a good few samples of food and really enjoyed them, nice change something different.

Some of the food stalls look nice but there's nowhere to stand or sit to eat and enjoy your food as the place is bedlam.

Also flat German beer served in a plastic pint pot you've had to pay a deposit for sounds grim.

Pouring Aldi mulled wine into a cup and charging £4-5 for it. No thanks
This is so true. Just head round the back of the gluwein stall and you can literally see the cardboard boxes that previously held 6 of Aldi's bottles. I think those bottles are only 2.99 each anyway, some mark-up!

Just out of interest but what is it about standing by a wooden shed in the freezing cold drinking overpriced beer and eating overpriced hotdogs that appeals to you?
The prices keep out the riff raff :)

Look, I wouldn't do it every time I go out but as a concept I like it and will support it. Socialising is a big part of my life (by that I mean alcohol) so I give things a go. I don't go to scruffy places, I like high end so if I pay £6 for a mulled wine then that's okay by me. I realise the markets are not high end but the point is the same. I'm going to James next week so have booked the Midland for dinner. I could get something much cheaper but for me it's also the experience. Same with the markets.

You only live once and can't take it with you!

Love them. Usually go on a mid-week evening to avoid the crowds. Few drinks, snacks and pick up some Xmas treats and stocking fillers for the family. I’m in two minds whether to go this year though, the failed Liverpool terror attack has spooked me. They would be a prime target for someone wearing an explosive vest.
