The police had spotters amongst that lot & i'm assuming someone was spotted.lancs blue said:If you look at the related vids it looks like at least some of the fans are part of Hamburg's hooligan group.

Give over - most of the police with batons out were WPc's. The police do over react, but I very much doubt that the Kraut mob were just minding their own business and walking peacefully to the game. In general, and we'll hopefully be experiencing it next year, mainland european police are more aggressive than ours - try the Italians, Greeks or Turks (although I do take the point that in Hamburg, the police were fine, but then again I didn't walk to the ground with a 100 strong mob of City fans). If you walk to the ground mobbed up, you always run the risk of a run in with the police - fact of life.

This is a far better tactic IMO than corraling all the away fans together and then marching them to the ground with a large police escort as often happens over here, which just intensifies the "mob" feeling.

they were goading and trying to have a nibble at the 30 or so city fans outside the pub. well they were til a few dozen chairs got slung in there direction anyway.
so i dont think they were angels by any stretch

If it's the Brunswick, it's the group I was walking along with. Doing nothing more than chanting, a few came out ofvthe pub so they stood there chanting.
Chairs came flying and the police came flying in.
The Germans were doing nowt worse than singing songs supporting their team.
