Mancini Has Failed

that is because mr. hughes bought an overpriced, below average midfield.
all the games you talk about we were overrun in midfield meaning we couldn't get the ball up to the front 2 enough to create anything. this is not mancini's fault and come the summer you'll see the difference in mancini's signings compared to hughes'.

Nothing to do with Mancini playing three defensive midfielders at home to Liverpool, or dropping Adebayor for the game at Arsenal? I could go on, but my take is that Mancini so far as shown himself to be overly negative imo. This may work in Italy, but I don't think you win things here playing that way.

this is my point, to my mind we don't have any attacking midfielders, apart from ireland who is badly off form, so he doesn't really have a choice, he has to play defensive players.

And we got our first point at Emirates for how long?

We could go around in circles with this... but ultimately we're in a better position now with Roberto than we were with Hughes. Surely people can see that at least.

Onwards and upwards. We have overtaken the scoucers, and have closed the gap on everyone else, but the season has been a failure, plain and simple. 4th was up for grabs, shit the title was up for grabs. after leading I believe we have dropped 10 points, all I believe under He who shall not be named and other games, Bolton, Wigan and Hull away. Our record against the then top 4 has been 3 wins 3 draws and 2 defeats and 15-12 on the goals. However the top as it now stands reads 13-16. The squad was not set up for success and success meant a top 4 finish, winning a cup is meaningless (as Pompey have ultimatly shown), its the top 4. Mancini has had no pre-season, probably had the purse strings closed till the summer so I would like to think he gets the same time (at least), as "that" man. We need 6 more players and if anyone leaves that needs to increase by however many leave.

Lahm
Maicon
Parker
Chiellini
De Rossi
Yaya
Bale/Abidal
Elano
Paul Robinson

As long as we can keep the best players we already have and not lose the likes of Tevez and entice a few more quality players to come to the club then the next two seasons can show a marked improvement.

Some of Mancini's substitutions seem perverse in my view but the truth is to compete to win the Champions league or the Premiership you need great players and a very tough mental attitude that doesn't even countenance losing.

I don't think City have either - yet.

To achieve his publicly stated target of Champions League. For those who think this was an overly demanding target, he has also failed to achieve his publicly stated points target of 70. If we lose to West Ham he will just about hit Hughes's original target of 6th. I agree with those who said sacking Mancini (or failing to activate the option of 3 more years) if he had achieved 4th, would have been bad for the image of the club, so it follows to me that his removal for not achieving his targets would present no such problems. I know some of you like him, fair enough. To my mind (notable victory at Chelsea and decent win against Villa apart) he failed against every top side he played. 1-0 at home to United, 2-0 at home to Everton, 1-0 at home to Spurs, 0-0 at home to Liverpool, 0-0 at Arsenal, 2-0 at Everton. Okay, all teams lose games, but these games all have one thing in common, no more than two shots on goal in each of them. Not good enough. So 'who comes in then?' I hear you cry. Mancini fans gleefully tell us Mourinho is Madrid bound. I think that's wishful thinking, and we should move heaven and earth to bring him here. What about potential targets closer to home? Wenger ready for a fresh challenge yet? What about Roy Hodgson? O'neill? Moyes? Not my problem really, but there's plenty out there ready, willing and able to take this club forward. I know I'll be accused of being part of a 'cabal' or of some sort of kneejerk reaction to last night. Neither accusation is true. I've been broadly supportive of Mancini while he was on target for Fourth, and I've suffered enough disappointments over the years to have already put last nights in the box marked 'Typical City'. Seen plenty of stuff supportive of Mancini, and just though a rival perspective deserved an airing.

I got to page 3 of this thread then i gave up as some of it it utter shit.

This is a fact though the chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak (the guy running the club) released a statement just after Mancini took over. That Mancini would not be held to Hughes 70 point target as it wouldn't be fair as he's only just got in the job.

Alex Ferguson, probably the best manager that has graced the premier league. I can honestly say that.

But look at the start of his career with United. 11th, 2nd, 11th, 13th, and 6th.

Now Mancini comes in, and turns round our season, stops us from leaking goals and picking up points on they way. I believe he is picking up around 1.9 points per game. That is 72.2 points over a season.

Mancini has done that with only 1 of his own signings and a team that was assembled to play in a different style.

This has also been done without Lescott for most of Mancini's reign in charge. Lescott is City's most expensive defender, and was just starting to look good. Many City fans believed Toure wouldn't get back in at CB because of his and Kompany's form.

We've also had the disruption of losing our no. 1 GK. Even though Fulop has done a great job, and i thank him for that, he isn't Shay Given. Shay would have had a better under standing of how our back line would play, something that takes a while to learn.

So has Mancini failed? Not in my opinion. I think he has turned this club around and he has the fans believing. We weren't talking about failing last night on the coach, we were talking about how close we'd be to the title next season.

I love being a City fan!

1) He had Mark Hughes team and had to work with his players.
2) It's obvious he didn't have the midfielders to play the system he wants.
3) He took us to within 2 games of getting 4th place.

If you're not happy with 5th position, then there's something seriously wrong and some of our fans are spoilt.
