Mancini: "I think Dzeko maybe needs wingers, some crosses"

wingers.

A J
Sanchez
Young
Mata
Balotelli - when not playing up front.

and then you have silva and milner if we are desperate for wingers. the reason i dont put silva in to begin with is because i hope that he gets to play in a advanced central position but him wide wouldnt upset me too much

Sorry but are you really suggesting that Mario can play as a winger?

build team without pace and width

buy guy who thrives on supply offered by said pace and width

good plan

Wow this makes me think that Tevez is gonna be sold off. Either way, I can see Mancini build the team around Dzeko. Hmm, exciting times ahead.

Mancini aint doing himself any favours here. Who hasn't figured out that Dzeko needs wingers? A blind man could see that.

Have we not got ANY wingers though? Pretty sure we have. Lets try playing them on their preferred wing and see if we actually manage to get a fucking cross into the box. That'd be a start.

Hmm yes we sure have.

Our wingers:
- SWP
- AJ

Our key frontline:
- Silva
- Tevez
- Balotelli (to a certain extent)
- AJ on the right

Hmm...would you trade that frontline for SWP + AJ??
The winger question was tongue in cheek. I know we've got more than one.

Would I swap the front line? If I was playing Dzeko up front, then I'd change a few things to suit that tactic, yes. We don't always have to play the same formation for every game. I'd play wingers for a start, and seeing as we have some I just don't see why we don't (or even play them on the correct wings).

Gold medal for stating the bleeding obvious!

I posted a response earlier today with my thoughts on the game last night and made exactly the same point. If we are going to play with 2 wide men, they need to stay out wide and maybe switch wings once in a while.

Of course, the first thing that Mancini did when he got here was strip us of two good wingers, Bellamy and Petrov. This made his approach very clear; he was going to play Italian- style. Despite the quality of our playing staff, this approach did not work well enough and that's when others started to get involved, buying AJ and Dzeko for him. Perhaps out of stubbornness, Mancini played his new winger-when he played him at all- on his wrong foot so as to keep our game narrow. Theoretically our 'wing-halves' were supposed to supply any necessary crosses, but we never saw many of them, did we?
What we have got now, is a team which looks as if it is made up of pieces from several different jig-saw puzzles and can't fit together and we look to be heading for fifth place.
What a disaster this manager has turned out to be. What did he expect from Dzeko when he knew that the team was completely wrong for his style of play.
I believe that he could be very successful in this League, but not for Mancini.

Not that we weren't expecting it, but these quotes confirm Tevez is leaving in the summer. We're effectively going to start all over again with different tactics. Yet another transitional period!

Fucking hell Hughes had us playing with width and no midfield two years ago, now after selling or loaning every wide player we have, Mancini decides we need to play wide again?
