Mancini or Pep era?

No Pep era without Mancini era. Mancini took us over when we were nothing, Pep took us over when we had titles in the bank.
It is nice that so many of our fans recognize that Bobby Manc laid the foundations for the most successful period in our recent history.

reading all these posts everyone makes good points.

No denying those 2 seasons under Pep were really special.Never, ever to be forgotten.

Bobby Mamc built a title winning side from scratch.

It was a real achievement.

Being a City fan of a certain age,i never thought i would see the day,i would see us lift the title.Even now it is still emotional.

We lived so long in those fuckers shadow.

And Bobby Manc took us out of it.

We saw that fucking banner ripped down.

Younger fans will have know nothing but success. They will say Pep all day every day.And i get it.

If though you are a City fan over 40,who lived through all our recent history.as great as those 2 years under Pep were, smashing records, left, right, and center.

Nothing will ever surpass that first Title.Seeing our beloved Club become Champions of England, whipping the smirks of a lot of faces. It was really special.

I still follow Bobby Manc on Twitter,he still says nice things about us.Genuinely loved the guy.

It's easy to forget that before Mancini came, there was zero chance any of us thought we'd win the league within a couple of years. If we were lucky we hoped a Carling Cup or FA Cup was possible. Maybe in a very good year, a 4th spot finish but we'd never think about winning the CL.

Mancini came in, won the FA Cup for the first time in decades. He made Kompany, Aguero, Yaya and Silva into genuine world class players. I'd never seen any world class players at City, ever. Even United fans didn't laugh when you told them Yaya was the best midfielder in the world, or that Aguero was the best striker in the world.

Mancini changed the mindset of the players, the clubs and the fans. He'll never be forgotten for the 1-6 slapping and how he squared up to Fergie and put him in a box. And of course, the Aguero moment was simply the greatest moment in football of all time. Nothing will ever come close to that day and the drama. It also made Mancini a legend and no matter what any manager does afterwards, I doubt anyone will give you anything that comes close to that season where we won our first title in 40 odd years. Sadly he wasn't backed after that and had we gone for the players he wanted there's no doubt in my mind we'd have won the title again as well as having a defence that would shut many European teams out.

Pep took Mancini's players and turned them into an even better team and of course the unequalled 100 points and Centurions are not likely to be matched for a while - even the Liverpool team of now couldn't match it. The football at times has been simply off the scale and I think that great team was the best ever seen in England.

However, there is the nagging doubt as to whether Pep has achieved what he could do. Granted the league titles and domestic cups were great, but in Europe we look no closer to winning it as we did under Mancini. The defence has been shown to be a huge achilles heal and he looks no closer to being able to fix it.

So, on balance I'm going with Mancini but still love Pep.

We should be lucky to even be discussing this type of question! :)

Nobody can ever doubt what football we have seen with Pep. The trophies we have won are beyond our wildest dreams. So many trips to the southern etihad. A lot to be grateful for. So, you would think with all that success I would feel closer to the club, but in truth I don’t. Having Pep feels like having a girlfriend on the rebound and she is always telling you about her ex and one true love. It’s not deliberate I know, but whilst the last few seasons have been great, for me there is not the same bond with the manager as with Mancini. He got us and we got him. He kept his promise to tear down that banner. Took on Fergie and beat him, ‘not in my lifetime’. He knew what Derby’s meant to the fans. The way the fans belted out the Mancini song told you everything you need to know. The blue scarf around his neck. I felt connected to the club, it felt like he was on our side, taking on the world. So, for me it is not a Pep or Mancini discussion , no one can argue with Pep’s trophies and the special football we played. But for me Mancini’s time was just special, he was special and I will be for ever grateful to him. The same will be true when it is time for Pep to leave, grateful for everything he has achieved. A lot of great memories, but just not quite the same fondness that I had for Mancini. I am not sure the Aguero moment will ever be bettered.
But the Agueroooooo moment was in spite of Roberto don't you know........... ;-)

Aguero moment came because were that close to royally messing up the title vs QPR in the first place.

11/12 was my favourite ever season. I don't think anything football wise will ever top that for me.

The 2 title winning seasons under Pep were amazing and the team were better than the Mancini one, but I don't think I'll ever get a bigger buzz at a game than the one I felt beating the rags 6-1 or from the Aguero moment.

Spine of steel?

Let's do Mancini title season vs Peps 1st eh?

Pts 89 --- 100
Wins 28 --- 32
Draws 5 --- 4
Loses 5 --- 2
GF 93 --- 106
GA 29 --- 27
GD 64 --- 79

What about Mancini's title defence Vs Peps?

Oh bugger? Pep won back to back titles

Let's do last season's champions Vs Mancini's steel Champions.

Pts 78 --- 81
Wins 23 --- 28
Draws 9 --- 3
Loses 6 --- 9
GF 66 --- 102

Oh look the steel champions conceded 1 goal less, but wait what? They scored nearly a goal per game less than Pep's lovely fuseball side.

Steel my arse pal.
Just an opinion whether you agree or not pal.
